GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a motivated and detailoriented Transmission & Distribution Drafting Intern to join our team within the Pittsburgh, PA office within the Transmission & Distribution business unit. The successful candidate will perform CAD work of red-lined engineering markups as well as project support working under engineering supervision. This internship provides handson experience supporting realworld projects while working alongside seasoned professionals. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, collaborative, and ready to contribute to impactful builtenvironment solutions. This is a temporary position scheduled to work 40 hours per week during a 10-week Summer Internship Program. The intern is expected to be in office three days a week.

Key Responsibilities



  • Opening, revising, plotting, and saving of drawing CAD files.
  • Create new drawings from templates from scratch with title blocks and border drawing blocks.
  • Create and modify drawing blocks, borders, and title blocks
  • Provide direction for compiling, collating, assembling, and verifying completeness of drawing and project document packages.
  • Advanced use of scaling with model and paper space.
  • Ability to use style and formatting in CAD software.
  • Advanced knowledge of plot profiles and user profiles in CAD package.
  • Advanced ISO view and 3-D view drawing depictions.
  • Assist CAD technicians and CAD operators in the development of their skills.
  • BIM experience preferred.
  • Support project tasks as needed



Collaboration & Learning



  • Participate in planned curriculum coursework, team meetings, scheduled events, project work, field observations.
  • Shadow senior staff to gain exposure to the full project lifecycle-from planning and design through construction.
  • Learn and apply industry codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Contribute ideas and provide general support to help ensure project success.


Project Support



  • Assist project teams with the preparation of drawings, plans, and technical documents.
  • Conduct basic research, field observations, and site visits under supervision.
  • Support design and engineering calculations, quantity takeoffs, and project documentation.
  • Help maintain project files, records, and data organization.


Technical Tasks



  • Draft or update 2D/3D models using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or other disciplinespecific tools.
  • Assist in developing reports, maps, exhibits, and project presentations.
  • Review project specifications, submittals, and materials when applicable.


Qualifications

Education



  • Pursuing an Associates Degree in Drafting & Design, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, or a related A/E/C discipline.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, etc.)
  • Familiarity with CADD design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or other disciplinespecific tools.


Skills & Competencies



  • Strong interest in the A/E/C industry and builtenvironment problemsolving.
  • Basic proficiency in disciplinespecific design or modeling software (training provided).
  • Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and ask questions.


Preferred Qualifications (Optional)



  • Prior internship or relevant coursework.
  • Familiarity with project workflows (design development, permitting, construction documents).
  • Exposure to field or construction environments.
