We are seeking a full-time Patrol Officer to join our Public Safety team downtown Milwaukee, WI. As a Patrol Officer, you'll play a key role in ensuring the MSOE campus remains a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and faculty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Primary responsibilities include proactively patrolling campus buildings and property and responding to both emergency and non-emergency calls from the MSOE community and the public for assistance. Extensive, paid training to set you up for success MSOE covers the cost of all job-related training, equipment, uniform, and licenses and certifications A consistent full-time schedule Competitive medical, dental, life, disability and vision insurance plans available Paid time off (vacation, sick, personal) and Paid holidays Paid parental leave Retirement plan with up to 6% match and immediate vesting Educational benefit programs for employees, spouses and/or dependents On-campus fitness center available FREE of charge for all employees Employee parking in MSOE lots downtown at a reduced cost Summary of duties for a Patrol Officer Respond to all emergency and non-emergency calls from the MSOE community and the public requesting assistance and/or police, fire, medical or other emergency services Determine the nature and location of the emergency, determine priorities, and direct Public Safety Patrol Officers or other emergency personnel as necessary in accordance with established procedures Enforce and comply with all University rules and regulations Good verbal and written communications skills, including clear and concise speech React quickly and effectively to stressful situations Must maintain all required licenses and permits Must successfully complete all initial and ongoing required training Must wear department-issued body armor, duty belt and all department-issued equipment while on duty Other Duties & Responsibilities Cover Public Safety Communications Officers and Public Safety University Service Officer shifts and breaks as needed Assist Director of Public Safety with creating department schedules Public Safety department vehicle maintenance Check fire extinguishers and panic alarms on campus Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Previous Public Safety / Patrol Officer / Security experience required Previous firearms experience preferred Previous Defense and Arrest Tactics (DAAT) preferred Must possess a valid driver's license, be able to drive, and be eligible to drive vehicles per MSOE driving policy Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Wisconsin Firearms Permit or meet the requirements to obtain a State of Wisconsin Firearms Permit Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State of Wisconsin Private Security Person License Must be at least 21 years of age on date of hire Must not be prohibited from possessing a firearm under federal or state law Must not be prohibited by a court order from possessing a firearm Successful completion of background and driving checks and a psychological evaluation Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to patrol the campus on foot, bicycle, or in a Public Safety vehicle. The employee is required to patrol campus building during their assigned shift. Occasional lifting or moving of heavy objects. Work Environment This position works both inside and outside of buildings and therefore is exposed to various temperatures and weather dynamics.
