This is a field-based role located in California, USA.

The Market Development Manager will drive the specification of Covestro materials at leading automotive OEMs, including TESLA, RIVIAN, HONDA, TOYOTA, MAZDA, NISSAN, HYUNDAI, KIA and West Coast Truck manufacturers (Mack, International, Kenworth, Freightliner, Peterbuild). This role is pivotal for introducing new products and Covestro technologies to develop a robust pipeline of projects that lead to sales and expansion of our market share in the region.

The targeted Customers focus on USA Emerging OEMs, Japanese and Korean OEMs, trading partners and Truck manufacturers in the West Coast. This includes the development of a forward-looking strategy for this segment and the management of a project portfolio as a contributor to the development of specifications and ensuring sufficient hand-off within the global sales organization.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain relationships with relevant OEMs and their trading partners to specify Covestro materials and expand our market share in automotive applications.
  • Proactively introduce new products/ technologies and develop and manage a pipeline of projects that align with strategic segment goals (INTERIOR, EXTERIOR, LIGHTING, BATTERY PACKAGING).
  • Collaborate with Sales, Application Development and Product Technology teams to ensure successful project execution, including Business Development Projects (BDP).
  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends and opportunities in the automotive sector.
  • Correspond with relevant global counterparts within Covestro to ensure information exchange and coordinated efforts in the automotive relevant segments to get product approvals at respective headquarters when necessary.
  • Resolve relevant technical and project issues through frequent and direct contact with engineering and business functions, both within the OEMs, tiers and Covestro.
  • Enhance Customer Satisfaction through innovative business models, solutions and strong partnership.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Polymer Science or a related field with 8+ years of professional experience; OR Master's degree in Materials Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field with 6+ years of professional experience.
  • 5 years of proven experience in the automotive industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the automotive industry within market development, sales or technical function

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong Technical expertise in engineering plastics and injection molding applications.
  • Excellent communication (oral & written), presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel internationally and work extended hours, when necessary
  • Independent worker with self-motivation, enthusiasm, achievement orientation, flexibility and teamwork.
  • Ability to think strategically to plan, both short and long term.
  • Advanced negotiation skills
  • Project management/planning skills
  • Fluent in English; fluency in Japanese or Korean is a plus.
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures.
