Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel II, Labor, Employment/HR and Ethic and Compliance to join our Human Resources Team based in Herndon, VA, Mobile, AL or Atlanta, GA.

The Senior Legal Counsel, Labor & Employment / HR E&C stakeholder engages in key strategic decision making designed to reduce Airbus' risks of reputational, legal and financial harm. The stakeholder leads all functions related to labor and employment legal within the extended HR team and in direct coordination with the AAI General Counsel. Primary objectives include leading the function of investigations concerning People Matter conduct, as well as managing labor relations in alignment with the Positive Employee Relations strategy across the US One Roof.

Your Working Environment:

Located just five miles from Washington Dulles International Airport, and 30 miles from the U.S. Capitol, this site serves as our major parts distribution hub in the Americas. The facility is a 24/7 fulfillment center, with an Aircraft on Ground (AOG) support desk, and Quality Assurance (QA) operations. To best support our customers, our 250,000-square-foot warehouse features a brand new technology called Autostore, aiming at increasing productivity.

Your Challenges:

  • Lead Employment Legal topics - Draft and support negotiation and legal review of Employment related legal agreements. Execute the design, implementation and review of HR policies and support deployment of the transaction and partner with internal and external stakeholders for execution of employee relations, leave, employment lay claims and risk mitigation opportunities.

  • Employee and Labor Relations - Manage labor relation issues, campaigns, organizing responses and petition filings in the US in alignment with the relevant HO HR and Employee Relations focals. Directing outside legal counsel and internal HR teams and manage negotiation of collective Bargaining Agreements and collaboration with internal and external teams associated

  • International Labor Law Network - Lead US stakeholder in the International Labor Law (ILL) Network Community of Practice by facilitating the exchange of knowledge and the promotion of expertise development of the national representatives appointed to participate in the ILL forum in transnational labor topics.

  • HR M&A Activities - Work in direct coordination with the AAI General Counsel and Director of Affiliate Governance on M&A transactions for the HR legal perspective. Collaboration with the HR leadership for the strategic and operational initiatives associated with these activities

  • E&C People Matters - Lead the investigations of all E&C People Matters across the US One Roof. Coordination of Employee Relations matters and identifying and assessing risks associated with said risks

  • Compliance - Work in direct coordination with the AAI General Counsel and Director of Affiliate Governance regarding expectations, gaps and mitigations and support Audit processes

  • Leadership - manage work and performance of Sr. Legal Counsel Labor, Labor Relations Manager and HR Compliance Manager and support and guide Director of Employee Relations and team stakeholders

Your Boarding Pass:

  • A Juris Doctor law degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school.

  • Admission to the bar in Alabama, New York or Virginia.

  • Current with CLE credits.

  • 10 or more years engaged in the practice of law with an emphasis on casework dealing with labor and employment issues.

  • Experience with a state or federal agency responsible for enforcement of labor and employment law is desirable.

  • Experience with a legislative body, committee or sub-committee responsible for the development of labor and employment-related laws is also desirable.

  • Experience with a professional organization supporting or lobbying on employment related issues is desirable.

  • Experience in leading a team and working across country, culture and organizational boundaries.

  • Experience with large, matrixed organization's workforce planning activities.

  • Experience with Positive Employee Relations strategy and implementation.

  • Experience working with industrial and manufacturing organizations.

  • Admission to the bar in Alabama, New York or Virginia.

Travel Required

  • 20% domestic and international

Citizenship

  • Authorized to Work in the US Without the need for visa sponsorship

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities

  • Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder expectations.

  • Advanced knowledge of federal, state and local employment law, and HR regulations.

  • Exceptional analytical and investigative skills, with strong attention to detail

  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills

  • Experience interfacing with executive management, and high level of client service skills

  • Experience working as part of a geographically dispersed team preferred.

  • Experience with international organizations is preferred.

  • Past success in a manufacturing/ aerospace environment preferred.

Communication Skills

  • Fluent written and spoken English.

  • Written, presentation and oral communication, interpersonal and consultative skills, as well as effective result-oriented problem solving skills

  • French, German or Spanish preferred.

Technical Systems Proficiency

  • Proficient in standard office productivity tools.

  • Proficient in utilizing Google Workspace preferred.

Level of Decision Making:

  • Compliance-related decisions have a high degree of exposure to government / state imposed fines and sanctions.

  • Decisions must be taken with a high degree of coordination with regional and enterprise level stakeholders, requiring advanced stakeholder-management and negotiation skills.

  • Responsible for an operational budget of $800,00

  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): Daily able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.

  • Carrying: Several times a week able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

  • Lifting: Several times a week able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

  • Pushing / Pulling: Several times a week able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.

  • Sitting: Daily able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.

  • Squatting / Kneeling: Several times a month able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

  • Standing: Daily able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor.

  • Travel: Rarely able to travel independently and at short notice.

  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): Daily able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.

  • Appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor
