Position Overview

The Assistive Technology for Kansans (ATK) Statewide Loan Specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing statewide assistive technology device loan services while supporting regional service delivery in the Northeast area of Kansas. This position ensures individuals across the state have timely and equitable access to assistive technology devices through efficient loan processing, inventory management, shipping coordination, data entry, and customer support. The Statewide Loan Specialist maintains device readiness by inspecting, cleaning, sanitizing, troubleshooting minor equipment issues, and entering newly purchased equipment into the statewide database.

In addition to statewide loan responsibilities, this position provides direct assistive technology services in the Northeast region by delivering Assistive Technology for Kansans' four core services: device demonstrations, device loans, device funding assistance, and assistive technology device requests. The position also provides information and referrals, conducts device trainings, completes customer intake documentation, and ensures timely and accurate service data entry.

The Statewide Loan Specialist supports the Kansas Equipment Exchange (KEE) program by managing durable medical equipment donations, cleaning and preparing equipment, distributing items to individuals in need, and assisting with collection drives. This role requires regular travel throughout the state to deliver services, coordinate equipment pick-up and delivery, conduct outreach and training activities, and participate in statewide staff meetings and professional development. Success in this role requires strong organization, attention to detail, customer service skills, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities while supporting statewide program goals.


Job Description

40% - Statewide Device Loans:

  • Fulfill statewide assistive technology device loan requests on a weekly basis, ensuring timely processing and customer support.
  • Coordinate shipment, tracking, and delivery of borrowed assistive technology devices to customers across the state.
  • Manage the return process for borrowed devices, including communication with customers regarding due dates and return procedures.
  • Inspect, clean, sanitize, and prepare returned equipment for future loans according to program standards.
  • Maintain accurate loan records and enter all required data into the system by Friday at 5:00 PM each week.
  • Collaborate with the ATK Loan Manager to identify and report loan trends, equipment needs, repair needs, and replacement priorities.
  • Monitor inventory to ensure devices are available, functional, and ready for distribution.
  • Assist in troubleshooting minor equipment issues and communicate repair concerns promptly.
  • Provide responsive customer service related to loan requests, shipping questions, and equipment usage.
  • Support statewide program goals by ensuring efficient, organized, and equitable access to assistive technology devices.
  • Enter newly purchased equipment into the database.

35% - Travel:

  • Provide AT four core services to individuals.
  • Conduct outreach and training sessions.
  • Coordinate delivery and pick up of ATK Device Loans, DME donations, and DME requests.
  • Attend professional development and statewide staff trainings.

10% - Deliver Assistive Technology for Kansans' four core services in the Northeast region of the state:

  • Device Demonstration.
  • Device Loans.
  • Device Funding Assistance.
  • AT Device Requests.
  • In addition, provide information and referrals and conduct assistive technology device trainings.
  • Complete intake forms for new customers and enter data into database.
  • Enter all data related to services provided by Friday at 5:00pm.
  • Participate and conduct public awareness and outreach in the Northeast region of the state.

5% - Implement the Kansas Equipment Exchange (KEE) program:

  • Accept donations of durable medical equipment (DME).
  • Clean and sanitize donated equipment.
  • Distribute DME to individuals in need.
  • Coordinate and host DME collection drives.

5% - Maintain accurate and timely data entry in the Assistive Technology for Kansans (ATK) statewide database.

5% - Participate in quarterly statewide staff trainings and engage in additional professional development opportunities as required.


    Position Requirements
    1. Must have and maintain reliable transportation and driver's license.
    2. Ability to lift 30lbs, clean, and maintain assistive technology equipment such as Gait Trainers and switch adapted toys as needed with or without accommodation.
    3. This role requires regular travel throughout the state to deliver services.

    Required Qualifications
    1. Bachelor's degree OR high school diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in an office or administrative setting.
    2. Previous experience with basic computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, data entry, and time management tools as evidenced by application materials.
    3. Strong written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.
    4. One year of experience interacting with the public in person, by phone, or through electronic communication as evidenced by application materials.
    5. Previous experience that demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team while following supervision and direction as evidenced by application materials.

    Preferred Qualifications
    1. A bachelor's degree in communication sciences and Disorders, Education, or a related human services field, or a Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Occupational Therapy.
    2. Experience and knowledge in assistive technology and durable medical equipment as evidenced by application materials.
    3. Experience working with individuals with disabilities and health conditions.
    4. Training and/or experience in assistive technology as evidenced by application materials.
    5. Knowledge of funding sources such as Medicaid, Medicare, HCBS Waivers, or private funding entities as evidenced by application materials.
