RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acts as liaison between SPD and OR to maintain workflow. Must be willing and able to foster positive work relationships with ANM's and surgeons. Collaborates with Clinical Team Leaders, SPD and surgical resources coordinator to resolve issues, identify and recommend instruments purchase to eliminate future conflicts.
  • Works with CS Educator to develop in-service education programs as needed.
  • Assesses supplies required for prescribed standard surgical procedures and sets up case carts. maintains inventory, collects, disassembles, inspects, cleans, disinfects and reassembles all instrument trays patient care equipment. Communicates with the CSS staff prior to the cases to ascertain specific instrument and supply needs and ensures these items are available. Must be able to resolve issues or offer alternatives when necessary.
  • Makes recommendations for the maintenance of Physician preference cards.
  • Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills. Serves, manages, and supports internal and external customers. Develops and improves skills through initiative, attendance and participation at educational programs. (5 percent)
  • Conforms and adheres to department policies concerning decontamination, sterile processing, infection control and safety.

Actively participates in the role of preceptor for student Sterile processing technicians and assists with the development of new preceptors in their role. Mentors and role models quest for continuous learning through formal education and the development of others. Seeks opportunities to share expertise with other members of the healthcare team within and beyond the clinical unit/department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of performance improvement tools and techniques. Continuously improves the quality of care and the work environment of outcomes and the integration of research and best practices into daily work. Shares learning from improvements with other units and/or spreads across the business unit or system.
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring and modeling uplifting and positive communication.
  • Evaluates staff schedule and re-assigns staff according to departmental needs.
  • Independently direct the department workflow on off-shifts and weekends or in the absence of the Supervisor/ Manager.
  • Reports in real time all errors to the SPD Manager and Supervisors.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of, and can effectively troubleshoot, all decontamination/sterilization equipment
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Some College. Associate's degree preferred or Surgical Technologist.
  • Must have 3-4 years of experience working in sterile processing or as operating scrub.
  • Sterile Processing Technician Certification CBSPD/ CRCST required/for Surgical Tech 6 months to obtain.
  • Completion of CHL Certification or CIS and significant supervisory experience preferred waived if Surgical Technologist.
Hourly Pay Range: $23.85 - $35.78 This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
