Role Summary
The Department of Oncology Research is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to support the discovery and advancement of small-molecule therapeutics. The candidate will contribute significant laboratory-based scientific work and present findings in internal forums.
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Cancer Biology, Genetics, or a related field, with hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques. Candidates with an MS and 3-5 years of relevant industry experience will also be considered. First-author publication(s) required for PhD candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, conduct, or monitor experiments with minimal supervision.
- Record, organize, and analyze data to generate robust and reliable results.
- Follow established experimental designs and protocols to obtain reproducible outcomes.
- Transfer experimental methods from literature and optimize as needed.
- Develop and implement new protocols with moderate review.
- Troubleshoot equipment and experimental challenges.
- Engage in scientific discussions and communicate data and interpretations to the work group.
- Contribute to reports, presentations, regulatory documents, invention disclosures, and patents.
- Participate in department-wide responsibilities (e.g., safety, recruiting, committees).
- May train staff or supervise others; coordinate resources to complete tasks.
- Understand when to seek guidance versus making independent decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong skillset in standard cell and molecular biology techniques, including:
- Mammalian cell culture
- Western blotting
- Molecular cloning
- qPCR
- Flow cytometry
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, GraphPad Prism).
- Research experience in cancer biology, genetics, or a related field.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Basic Qualifications
- Doctorate degree
OR Master's degree + 2 years of experience
OR Bachelor's degree + 4 years of experience

- Mammalian cell culture
- Proficiency with standard molecular biology techniques (western blotting, molecular cloning, qPCR, flow cytometry, etc.)
- Familiarity with data processing and analysis tools (Excel, GraphPad Prism)
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Maintain continuous cultures of multiple mammalian tumor cell lines.
- Design and execute experiments, including high-throughput assays (AlphaLISA, CellTiter-Glo) and molecular biology methods (immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, western blot).
- Perform data analysis, maintain lab notebooks, and prepare data presentations.
