Buckeye Partners is currently seeking a Manager, Compensation to join our growing team.

Role Summary:

This position, reporting to the Sr. Director, Total Rewards & HRIS, manages employee compensation programs for the HR department.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions include:



  • Serves as a strategic advisor to HR and Senior Leadership by providing data-driven insights, modeling scenarios, and risk assessments to support workforce planning, retention strategies, and cost management.


  • Manages job evaluations and market pricing analyses to inform pay decisions for new hires, promotions, and transfers, ensuring alignment with Buckeye's compensation philosophy, external market competitiveness, internal equity, and legal requirements.


  • Evaluates and recommends market survey participation and benchmarking approaches based on workforce demographics, business strategy, and evolving talent needs; monitors market trends and assesses potential impacts to pay programs.


  • Oversees the administration of core compensation programs, including the annual merit cycle and short- and long-term incentive plans, translating program design into effective execution, reporting, and employee-facing communications.


  • Leads or contributes to compensation-related initiatives and projects, including program enhancements, policy updates, governance improvements, and readiness for organizational or regulatory change.


  • Partners with leadership to support compensation governance by ensuring adherence to established guidelines, documenting exceptions, and identifying opportunities to strengthen controls and consistency.


  • Maintains and evolves compensation documentation, tools, and guidelines to ensure clarity, scalability, and sustainability of compensation practices as the organization grows or changes.


  • Identifies opportunities for process optimization, automation, and improved analytics to enhance decision-making, transparency, and efficiency across compensation activities.


  • Provides compensation-focused presentations to management teams to facilitate informed decisions regarding salary or program proposals.



Position Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business or other related discipline OR equivalent combination of experience and education required.


  • A minimum of seven years' experience in compensation is required; at least two years of compensation management experience is preferred.


  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel/Access/PowerPoint.


  • Experience working with HRIS compensation modules or stand-alone compensation systems required. Experience with UltiPro preferred.


  • Up to 10% travel.



Certificates & Licenses:



  • CCP/GRP preferred


  • PHR or SPHR a plus

  • Communication and interpersonal skills: Capable of influencing senior management and presenting complex data clearly. Incumbent must exercise tact, discretion, and professionalism when dealing with internal and external customers and in handling sensitive and confidential information


  • Project management and change leadership: Skilled in leading initiatives and implementing compensation changes.


  • Business acumen: Understanding of organizational budgeting and forecasting.
