Schedule: Multiple shifts available

Pay Range: $25.00-$50.00/hour DOE

Interstate Power Systems is now hiring Mid-Level and Experienced Diesel Technicians and Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanics at our Altoona, Iowa facility. This position is ideal for technicians with hands-on experience working on Detroit Diesel engines (including Series 60), Cummins, CAT, PACCAR, International, and other heavy-duty diesel engine platforms.

Our technicians support Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, International, Mack, and other on-highway diesel trucks. Interstate Power Systems provides OEM training, manufacturer certifications, and long-term career growth in a stable, growing organization.

Diesel Technician Responsibilities



  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty diesel trucks, engines, transmissions, chassis, and related components
  • Perform advanced diesel diagnostics on Detroit Diesel (Series 60 through current models), Cummins, and other OEM engines
  • Troubleshoot and repair engine, aftertreatment, electrical, driveline, braking, and suspension systems
  • Communicate repair needs and recommendations with foremen, service writers, and fellow diesel technicians
  • Complete high-quality repairs to maximize truck uptime and customer satisfaction
  • Accurately document repairs, labor, and parts usage
  • Maintain and complete required diesel certifications and training



Diesel Technician Qualifications



  • Experience as a Heavy-Duty Diesel Technician or Diesel Mechanic
  • Strong working knowledge of Detroit Diesel engines, including Series 60
  • Experience with Cummins diesel engines (CAT, International, and other OEM experience preferred)
  • Solid understanding of diesel diagnostics, electrical systems, and engine repair
  • Experience with brakes, suspension, hydraulics, manual and automatic transmissions, and drivetrains preferred
  • Valid driver's license required (CDL holders eligible for bonus compensation)
  • Reliable work ethic with a strong focus on safety and customer service
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of a diesel technician role
  • Experience with Allison transmissions, Volvo Penta, Deutz, and Perkins is a plus
