Department Overview

PG&E's Underground Program organization is working to reduce wildfire risk every day as we underground thousands miles of distribution lines. We are responsible for working across all internal teams and engaging external stakeholders to support successfully meeting our goals and reducing wildfire risk in our hometowns. We work in an exciting and fast-paced environment.

Position Summary

The Principal Program Manager for the Undergrounding Program helps lead a diverse and experienced team in customer experience, regulatory strategy, and continuous improvement. This position will support all members of the Undergrounding Customer, Performance, and Regulatory Strategy team and other teams within the Undergrounding Program. This position will be an important member of the overall Undergrounding leadership team.

This position will support any team needs as directed by the Sr. Director of the Undergrounding Program including in the areas of change management, team engagement and morale, team coordination and partnership, partnering with numerous other PG&E departments on the undergrounding mission. In particular this position will help the Undergrounding organization in three particular areas: 1) change management to support the Undergrounding Program team and partners in the transition to the 10 Year Electric Undergrounding Plan; 2) support for change management and communications for other continuous improvement efforts across the team and program; 3) lean operating system implementation including the shaping and management of Plans on a Page (PoPs), tactical implementation plans (TIPs), containment and countermeasure plans and others. This position will also be expected to operate as the official delegate for the Sr. Director, Underground Program on a regular basis including in external environments.

With big goals - thousands of miles of distribution lines to undergrounding - and ambitious improvements expected - including driving the unit cost to around $2M per mile - this position will be critical to PG&E's success in delivering for our communities the long-term goals of the Undergrounding program.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory. The position will be required to participate in meetings and working sessions at the Dublin Innovation Center on a regular basis (approximately 2 days per week).

Disclosure:

PG&E is providing the salary range that can reasonably be expected for this position at the time of thejob posting. This salary range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will bebased on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience,market value, and geographic location.

The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.This job is also eligible to participate inPG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Minimum: $144,000

Midpoint: $194,000
Maximum: $244,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Drive safety for coworkers and the public throughout the organization and the broader undergrounding program
  • Develop and lead the change management plan related to the filing of and transition to the 10 Year Electric Undergrounding Plan
  • Develop and lead change management and communication plans for other customer, regulatory, and continuous improvement efforts across the Undergrounding Program
  • Support or lead process improvement initiatives for the undergrounding effort and PG&E overall. Oversee process and procedure development, implementation, communications and training for new activities and/or changes to existing programs/processes.
  • May function as a consultant, subject matter expert or a project manager depending upon the needs of the various business partners.
  • Coach and mentor team members throughout the organization
  • Solve unique and complex problems, anticipating issues and developing innovative solutions
  • Demonstrate strategic leadership with numerous, cross-functional stakeholders to support Company goals.
  • Lead development of program goals and metrics to meet company goals and objectives. Collaborates across organization to ensure alignment of plans in place to meet goals and support the Undergrounding program.
  • Communicate program updates and information to support team engagement, morale, and coordination
  • Responsible for partnering with other departments and teams to meet program goals.
  • Develop recommendations for, or provide significant input to, PG&E leadership, other utilities with similar programs, industry to influence market place and regulatory strategies impacting PG&E and its customers.
  • Support PG&E's engagement with external customers, communities and organizations related to the System Hardening / Undergrounding effort.
  • Support the development of plans, goals and metrics and monitors performance of work within assigned program. Set and achieve department goals in support of established functional objectives. Review performance metrics to determine overall trending. May develop and deliver presentations on program status, risk and corrective measures to leaders of various leadership levels.
  • May participate as a member of the Incident Command structure during times of significant events, such as storms, or earthquakes.
  • Monitor compliance with Company and California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regulations, construction standards, and requirements. Develops policies and relevant governance, processes, infrastructure, documentation and tools to support the program.
  • Ensure that all programs are managed in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, filings, tariffs and follow established guiding principles/best practices.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or other relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience in areas such as: gas or electric construction, maintenance, program/project management, compliance, financial planning or quality control/assurance.
  • Occasional travel throughout the service territory may be required.
