About this role

AAP Automation, a division of OTC Industrial Technologies, is looking for an experienced Automation Controls Engineer to join our team in Englewood, CO - just south of Denver. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll own projects end-to-end, from design and PLC/HMI programming through implementation and commissioning, across a diverse range of customers in one of the most active automation markets in the Mountain West.

What You'll Do



  • Own projects end-to-end: Interpret customer specifications and scopes of work; execute all aspects of automation projects from order to implementation including mechanical/electrical drawings, PLC/HMI programming, robotics/AMRs, and all peripheral devices; manage multiple projects simultaneously up to ~$100K independently
  • Engineer solutions: Design and develop customized automation systems across mechanical design, electrical design, PLC programming, HMI screens, robotics, and safety; specify all components needed for project completion and provide all CAD drawings
  • Support & improve existing systems: Provide technical support, problem solving, maintenance, and continuous improvement for existing automated equipment; lead remediation, migration, and upgrade efforts for existing control systems
  • Collaborate & deliver: Partner with the greater systems engineering team on larger projects ($100,000+); work with the quote desk to generate proposals; provide world-class technical support to OTC sellers, customers, and vendors
  • Participate in capital projects: Support new installations, testing, and modernization projects; implement and modify programming and HMI screens across Allen Bradley, Omron, Mitsubishi, Exor, Codesys, Siemens, and more


What You'll Need



  • Experience & Education: Bachelor's degree in an Engineering related field; minimum 7 years of experience in the automation industry; broad knowledge of electrical and automation devices
  • Platform Requirements: Omron & Mitsubishi required; servo experience required; Allen Bradley, Siemens, and additional platform experience a plus; SCADA experience a plus; Fanuc, Motoman, Denso, or Kuka robotics experience a plus
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of drafting techniques and engineering terminology; ability to create detailed mechanical and electrical drawings; experience with industrial safety application equipment (light curtains, safety relays, door switches, safety scanners); Unidraf knowledge a plus; strong mechanical aptitude a plus
  • Core Competencies: Well-developed problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to learn and apply technical product information; proven performance in complex markets with diverse customer segments; strong organizational skills and ability to calculate figures including discounts, profit margins, and unit conversions
  • Tools & Standards: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); knowledge of codes and standards within the automation industry; able to operate independently in a high-pace, dynamic environment
