Position Summary:

The Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides comprehensive hybrid inpatient and outpatient careto antepartum patients with high-risk obstetric and medical conditions at UNC Medical Center. This innovative role combines clinical practice on the High-Risk Antepartum Inpatient Unit with MFM outpatient clinics, providing maximum scheduling flexibility, continuity of care across settings, and a uniquely versatile provider experience.

Working collaboratively within the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine alongside antepartum attendings, fellows, and residents, the APP performs patient assessments, develops and implements treatment plans, and coordinates multidisciplinary care for complex antepartum patients in both hospital and clinic environments. This dual-setting role ensures seamless care transitions for patients moving between inpatient and outpatient management while offering the provider diverse clinical experiences and professional growth opportunities. As an integral member of an interdisciplinary team, the APP delivers high-quality, evidence-based care to pregnant patients with complications including preterm labor, preeclampsia, gestational and pregestational diabetes, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, fetal anomalies, multiple gestations, and other maternal-fetal conditions. The hybrid model allows the APP to follow patients longitudinally from clinic through hospitalization and back to outpatient care, enhancing relationship continuity and clinical outcomes. Opportunities exist to support departmental needs across clinical areas and contribute to divisional initiatives and special projects.

Clinical Settings:

  • Inpatient High-Risk Antepartum Unit:Acute management of hospitalized patients with pregnancy complications
  • MFM Outpatient Clinics:Prenatal care, consultations, chronic condition management for high-risk pregnancies, and postpartum care

Schedule:

  • Hybrid weekly schedulealternating between inpatient unit and MFM outpatient clinics (ratio tailored to provider preferences, experience, and departmental needs)
  • Day shifts (no night coverage)
  • Weekend coverage approximately one weekend per month (inpatient unit only)
  • Rotational holiday coverage

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in maternal-fetal medicine (inpatient and/or outpatient)
  • Experience in Labor and Delivery, antepartum unit, or critical care/intensive care unit
  • Outpatient obstetric or women's health clinic experience
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Physician Assistant
