Fire Alarm Installation / Service Technician Job Description:
Job Summary
The Fire Alarm Installation / Service Technician is responsible for installing, testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, and maintaining fire alarm systems in commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. This role ensures systems comply with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements while delivering high-quality service and safety. Be available for off hours On Call rotation, including holidays and weekends.

Key Responsibilities
Installation:
  • Install fire alarm systems including control panels, devices, wiring, and associated equipment
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications
  • Install conduit, wiring, and field devices in accordance with code requirements
  • Coordinate with general contractors and other trades on job sites

Service & Maintenance
  • Perform routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems
  • Troubleshoot system issues and perform repairs or replacements as needed
  • Diagnose wiring, device, and panel problems efficiently
  • Respond to service calls and emergency repairs
  • Complete inspection reports and documentation accurately

Customer Interaction
  • Communicate system status, issues, and recommendations to customers
  • Provide basic system training to end users when required
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients and team members

Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain service records, test results, and as-built documentation
  • Track materials used and report job progress
  • Follow company procedures for reporting and compliance

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 2+ years of experience in fire alarm installation or service preferred
  • Experience with major systems (e.g., Notifier, Simplex, EST, Bosch) is a plus

Certifications (Preferred but not always required)
  • California Life Safety Blue Card - MANDATORY
  • NICET Fire Alarm Systems certification (Level I-III preferred)
  • State or local fire alarm license (as required)
  • OSHA 10/30 certification

Skills & Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of fire alarm systems and components
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and construction drawings
  • Proficient with hand tools, meters, and testing equipment
  • Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Work on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces
  • Comfortable working in construction and occupied environments

Work Environment
  • Combination of indoor and outdoor job sites
  • Exposure to construction environments, dust, and noise
  • Travel to various job sites as required
