Surgical Coordinator / Surgical Scheduler ContracttoHire \| OnSite \| Rockville & Silver Spring, MD Pay Rate: $21.00-$25.00/hour (based on experience) Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM Duration: 6month contract with strong potential for permanent hire Work Environment: Medical Office Parking: Free onsite parking at both locations Primary Location: Rockville, MD 20850 Secondary Location (as needed): Silver Spring, MD 20904 About the Opportunity TEKsystems is seeking a Surgical Coordinator to support physicians by coordinating and managing all aspects of surgical scheduling and patient preparation. This role is ideal for someone with experience in a surgical or medical office who enjoys patient interaction, coordination, and working in a fastpaced healthcare environment. You will work closely with physicians, patients, surgical facilities, and insurance companies to ensure surgeries are scheduled accurately, authorizations are obtained, and patients are fully prepared for their procedures. Key Responsibilities * Coordinate internal surgery scheduling based on physician orders * Reserve operating room dates and times with surgical facilities * Schedule anesthesia, surgical assistants, vendors, and any required equipment * Communicate surgery details to patients, including preparation, appointment time, and location * Review patient medication lists and medical history that may impact surgical clearance * Coordinate and schedule preoperative appointments, testing, imaging, and clearances * CT, MRI, Ultrasound, XRay, labs, etc. * Obtain insurance authorizations and precertifications using CPT and ICD10 codes * Prepare, send, and track required surgical documentation (orders, consents, H&P, pathology) * Ensure all documentation is scanned and maintained in the electronic medical record (EMR) * Confirm surgery dates with patients, facilities, and anesthesia providers * Act as a liaison and patient advocate between patients, physicians, facilities, and payors * Track global surgical periods and ensure appropriate postprocedure followups * Release unused OR blocks per facility policy to avoid utilization penalties * Support compliance with US Oncology policies, Code of Ethics, and business standards Required Qualifications * High School Diploma or equivalent * At least 1 year of experience in a surgical or medical office setting (preferred) * Experience with scheduling, insurance verification, and/or prior authorizations * Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities * Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel * Ability to explain patient financial responsibility based on insurance benefits * Must pass background check and drug screening Why This Role? * Temptoperm opportunity with a wellestablished healthcare organization * Daytime schedule with no nights or weekends * Supportive, teambased medical office environment * Excellent entry point for growth within surgical or specialty healthcare operations Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockville, MD.
