To achieve this goal, theCHSE (Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering)team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery,scaleand sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for a Senior Power Engineer to join the System Design team.

Responsibilities
  • Define and design rack level power systems to enable integration of a variety of IT gears intoMicrosoftdata centers

  • Work with cross-functional teams to drive product qualification full test coverage to meet product requirements and ensure product deployment

  • Leadrack level power system testing andidentifyintegration issues between PSU, power shelf,firmwareand system load.

  • Contribute to rack level power system solution roadmap with cross-functional teams and vendor partners to ensure long term scalability ofMicrosoftpower infrastructure

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on power delivery for high-performancecompute(HPC), AI workloads, and ODM platforms.

  • Define and enforce power system design standards, safety protocols, and compliance with global regulatory requirements.

  • Engage with external partners, suppliers, and academic collaborators to advance power system innovation.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experienceOR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field. MS and PHD are preferred.

  • 3+ years of experience with high power redundant AC-DC power supply design

  • 3+ years of experience with product bring-up and troubleshooting skills with power supply testing methodologies

  • 3+ years of experience developing design specifications, design guidelines, and test plans

  • Familiar with digital bus design, such as I2C/PMBus, Modbus, andCANbus

  • Familiar with safety standards and application process

  • Familiar with power supply qualification standard and process, such as components derating, MTBF and EMC

  • Detail oriented communication skills

  • 3+ years of experience with AC-DC power conversion topologies, such as various active PFC approaches, PWM converters and resonant converters

  • Experience with Data center power delivery is a plus

  • Familiar with DC/DC power system design and evaluation is a plus

  • Experience with power system integration in ODM or CSP environments is a plus.

  • 3+ experience in power system engineering, preferably in rack power or data center environments.

  • 3+ years of experience with design and simulation tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Python, Cadence, Mathcad, LTSpice, Simetrix/Simplis or PSCAD.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Electrical Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
