Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Operations Manager/ Shift Supervisor



The Operations Manager is responsible for facilitating daily shelter operations.



The Schwartz Assessment Shelter is a shelter for men operating 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Clients are referred to the program by the New York City Department of Homeless Services. To learn more about the program, copy and paste this link into a browser https://www.voa-gny.org/housing


Location: Wards Island, NY 10035



Minimum Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or GED preferred plus one-year of relevant experience working in a similar capacity in a social services setting.
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills and basic computer knowledge.
  • Certifications in security required and Fire Safety (F-80) obtained within 3 months of hire.



Operations Manager/ Shift Supervisor Principal Responsibilities:



  1. Supervise delivery of program services including intake, bed assignments, case management services, distribution of client mail, lockers, meal cards and medication.
  2. Ensure optimal customer service is being provided to clients.
  3. Ensure recreation activities are occurring.
  4. Ensures the facility is adequately staffed at all times.
  5. Work with DHS PD to ensure the daily security and safety of the facility.
  6. Supervise facility maintenance, cleaning staff and fire safety.
  7. Manage community relations and communicate with relevant authorities as needed.
