BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT STAFF ASSISTANT OFFICE OF PUBLIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION General Support Division Number of Positions: 1 Starting Salary: $68,616.00 This position is open to current AFSCME BIDDERS AND the PUBLIC. Only current City employees covered under the City's Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4, & 5 are considered BIDDERS and are eligible to bid. Under direction, assists in the performance of specialized administrative support duties, and develops and implements management methods to improve organizational performance; and performs related duties as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * The Staff Assistant in the General Support Division serves as a central administrative and operational support partner for division leadership. This is not a clerical-only role; it is an administrative operations position that supports citywide public safety logistics. * The position supports the Division's work across fleet & facility management, inventory control, mailroom operations, as well as equipment and supply coordination. * In short, this role supports the operational backbone of public safety. This person will help coordinate projects, improve processes, draft professional communications, and ensure leadership has the information they need to make decisions. * It requires organization, strong writing skills, software proficiency, and the ability to work across multiple departments in a structured environment. Additional duties may be required for this position. LOCATION: Office of Public Safety Administration DIVISION: General Support ADDRESS: 3510 S Michigan Ave - Public Safety Headquarters SHIFT: Monday through Friday HOURS: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm DAYS OFF: Saturday and Sunday THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field, plus one (1) year of administrative experience Should the above criteria not be fulfilled, the following options are acceptable: * Five (5) years of administrative work experience; OR * Graduation from an accredited college with an associate's degree in business administration, Public Administration or a directly related field, plus three (3) years of administrative work experience SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to complete an interview, which will include a universal skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected. Selected Bidders will be hired in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement.
