POSITION SUMMARY

The General Maintenance Worker for Dismas Charities is responsible for ensuring the safe, functional, and well-maintained operation of the centers and the corporate office. This role balances hands-on technical repairs with preventive maintenance and corporate reporting to ensure facility standards and compliance are met across all locations.

Shift Schedule: Full-Time. 40 hours per week. Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Requires travel to local and national centers.
  • Performs general repairs to building structures, plumbing, electrical fixtures, appliances, and HVAC systems.
  • Executes preventive maintenance schedules for security systems, fire alarms, and facility infrastructure.
  • Maintains overall cleanliness of buildings and grounds, including trash, snow, and ice removal.
  • Conducts regular facility inspections to identify and resolve potential safety concerns.
  • Coordinates with third-party contractors for specialized repairs or large-scale upgrades, serving as liaison.
  • Maintains detailed logs of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts inventory.
  • Provides regular reports to the corporate office regarding facility status and urgent needs.
  • Monitors and orders maintenance supplies in compliance with corporate purchasing procedures.
  • Required to travel as a multi-center liaison.
  • Moves furniture and assists with event setup at the corporate office and local venues.
  • Trains and mentors other maintenance staff as required.
  • Performs other facility support duties as assigned by the supervisor.

SKILLS

  • Technical Proficiency
    • Basic trade skills in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting.
    • Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical and structural issues quickly.
    • Knowledge of building automation and HVAC systems.
  • Administration & Coordination
    • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office for reporting and communication.
    • Strong organizational skills to prioritize urgent repairs alongside routine tasks.
    • Effective communication skills for coordinating with corporate leadership and center management.
  • Equipment Operation
    • Safe operation of company vehicles, heavy machinery, including forklifts, Bobcats, and scissor lifts.
    • Proficiency with lawn maintenance and snow removal equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS /REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facility maintenance or building operations.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to local and national Centers as required.
  • Certification in a relevant trade (Electrical, Plumbing, or HVAC) is preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those required of an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and kneeling. The employee must be able to climb ladders safely, work at elevated heights, and maintain the physical stamina to operate heavy machinery and outdoor equipment.

ESSENTIAL POSITION

This position is considered an "essential position" (as defined by the United States Department of Homeland Security) and is a position that cannot be completed via telecommuting.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is exposed to both indoor and outdoor environments. Work may be performed in controlled office temperatures or outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
