HDR is looking for a Project Controls Manager to join our team. The primary role of this position is to develop and maintain project controls practices on assigned projects with the goal to meet scope, schedule, and budget performance. This role will work alongside the Program and Project Managers to establish project controls approaches for projects and partner with project leadership to actively monitor project performance and identify deficiencies. This role will primarily support projects in HDR's transportation business group (e.g. transit, highways, and local agency) but will also support projects across HDR's other services lines (water, building engineering services, and resources). This role is expected to play a central role in project and program delivery assessing the project's health and KPIs. Depending on the size of the project or program, this role will coordinate with other project controls specialists for schedule, cost, risk, earned value, document control, and PMIS (Project Management Information System).

In the role of Project Controls Manager, we'll count on you to:

  • Develop project controls processes and procedures for assigned programs/projects to set up a framework to manage scope, budget and schedule. The workstreams under project controls include schedule management, cost management, change management, risk management, and document management
  • Coordinate with Project and Program Managers to develop tools to implement project controls plan for projects and programs
  • Collaborate with regional and corporate project controls director and business class lead for consistent project controls approach
  • Partner with designers, contractors, inspectors and other third-party entities to proactively identify, communicate and resolve scope, schedule, and pricing variances
  • Establish a procedural framework for preparing, reporting and reconciling variances, including developing and/or enhancing reporting procedures and tools
  • Manage and enforce adherence to project controls practices and procedures, including change management and records management
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators and report to project and program staff and client
  • Coordinate with teams regarding the interface with owner's activities, permitting, real estate, engineering, construction and commissioning schedule
  • Develop earned value method and coordinates such system with schedule update
  • Communicate project status to project/program management regularly via formal meeting and reports
  • Assist project manager in monthly reporting
  • Interact with engineering discipline leads and construction managers to understand issues and conflicts impacting schedule
  • Establish cost control method for the assigned project or program
  • Support Project and Program Managers in preparing and implementing change management procedure
  • Work closely with the PMIS team to recommend technology solutions to manage data and information that the program will receive, generate, analyze, consume and communicate to stakeholders
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, engineering management, accounting, business administration or closely related fields.
  • 10+ years working knowledge of and proficient at project controls and scheduling software packages such as Primavera P6, and Microsoft Projects.
  • Familiar with variation of project controls role using various delivery methods including traditional design bid build (DBB), design-build (DB), EPCm, progressive design build (PDB), Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), and/or construction management at-risk (CMAR).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and "can-do" attitude.
  • Strong organizational skills; able to manage priorities and workflow on multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suites
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands for your time in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to self-manage work and collaborate effectively with a team from different locations at all organizational levels.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Willingness to travel
  • Experience with additional PMIS software (eBuilder, ProCore, QuickBase, InEight, Kahua, PMWeb, etc.) strongly desired.
  • Previous experience in implementing PMIS and dashboard reporting for a program or organization.
  • Experience with Deltek Acumen Fuse, Schedule Validator, TILOS or other 4D scheduling tools.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in project controls work on engineering and construction projects, including planning, estimating, forecasting, scheduling, cost control, schedule control, and project reports
  • Ability to manage proposal preparation, contract review and negotiation, client relationship and win strategy for medium to large EPC Projects
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple long- and short-term tasks simultaneously
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
