Position Purpose

  • To provide general support for The Prouty (pre-event, during the event, and post-event) with a focus on logistics and operations for the Prouty events.
  • As an intern, you will play a critical role in the behind-the-scenes execution of a massive multi-sport event (cycling, walking, rowing, and golf) that attracts over 4,000 participants and nearly 1,000 volunteers.
  • The Prouty is northern New England's largest family-friendly fundraising event combining cycling, walking, and more to raise funds and awareness for life-saving research and critical patient and family support services at Dartmouth Cancer Center.
  • The 45th Annual Prouty will take place on July 10-11, 2026, with a goal to raise $12 million to support the important work of the Cancer Center.
  • The Dartmouth Cancer Center is dedicated to raising funds to support the services provided by DCC. The Prouty is the Friends of Dartmouth Cancer Center's signature annual event. The mission of the Friends of Dartmouth Cancer Center (FDCC) is to raise money and awareness for the Cancer Center.

Required Qualifications

  • This will be an in-person position based in Lebanon, NH,
  • Interns are expected to provide their own transportation - travel around the Upper Valley will be occasionally required.
  • Candidates under the age of 18 must meet all legal employment policies for minors per New Hampshire Labor Law.
  • Position commitment is approximately from the end of May through the end of July.
  • Flexibility in the work schedule is essential. Most workdays are about 5 hours in duration, although some extended hours into the evening or weekends will be required, particularly as we get closer to the event date.
  • Given the temporary nature of this internship, we expect minimal time off. Please note that we cannot accommodate requests for days off during the week leading up to June 13, 2026, the week prior to The Prouty, July 10-11, 2026, and the week following the Prouty event. Additionally, interns are required to work on the weekends of June 13-14 and July 11-12.



Skills & Knowledge

  • Organizational Excellence: High attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Logistics Fundamentals: Basic understanding of inventory management, and scheduling.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills for professional interaction with donors, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Technical Proficiency: Comfort using Microsoft Excel and learning event-specific database software.
  • Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
  • Passion for helping end cancer. Brings joy and a sense of humor to the workplace.

Experience
  • Volunteer or office experience is helpful.
Education
  • High school or college student.

Schedule

Key Accountabilities




Key Accountabilities
Inventory Management


  • Support management for thousands of pieces of gear, signage, and supplies.
  • Pack and organize "Event Kits" for various events (cycling, rowing, and walk).
  • Assist with route signage planning and implementation and additional signage at venue and for off-site events



Site Setup and Coordination


  • Assist in the layout and set-up at Richmond Middle School.
  • Liaise with vendors for tent rentals, portable toilets, and waste management to ensure timely delivery and placement.
  • Assist in coordinating the delivery of equipment (such as tables, chairs, bike racks) across multiple event sites.
  • Support execution of events at the Prouty (July 10-11).


Procurement Support

  • Manage or support management of certain aspects of delivery from food and beverage donors, ensuring storage and handling protocols are met, as well as equipment providers.

General Office Support

  • Answer telephones and monitor email in a helpful and professional manner, using established guidelines.

Post-Event Clean Up and Breakdown

  • Serve in a key role helping to bring the event to a close by breaking down the venue site.
