Position Location
This position will be located onsite at the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Job Overview
The incumbent is responsible for performing general maintenance, minor preventive maintenance and repair of interior and exterior of buildings, sanitation systems, low voltage electrical systems, and components associated with military family housing and bachelor's quarters facilities, at various locations.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
Brick, cut holes in walls, floors, ceilings, etc.; saw; drill holes in concrete, steel and other materials. Mix concrete and plaster in proper proportions, level and rough trowel.
- Representative duties and responsibilities:
- Perform all rough and finish painting on structures, machinery, and equipment.
- Prepare surfaces for painting by removing all paint or foreign matter; scrape, fill, and putty and apply paint by brushing, rolling and spray. Mix and blend pigments, driers, plasticizers, solvents, and extenders as required.
- Cut, install, and replace glass windows, doors, and skylights.
- Plan, layout and develop working sketches and develop the bill of material required for construction and installation of, and repairs to, office and shop partitions, tables, cabinets, layout boards, frames, benches, racks, doors, concrete forms, etc.
- Use all types of carpentry tools including, but not limited to, power tools, saws, and planes.
- Perform minor roofing repairs including the removal of damaged material, surface preparation, tar application, felt and roofing paper installation, application of sealers, top coats and gravel.
- Performs all tasks incidental to the work.
- Use your detailed knowledge of particular events, day-to-day problems and opportunities and how things are actually done to implement ideas that:

- Carpentry hand tools, power tools, jackhammer, star drills, paint, scrapers, planes, etc.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience.
- Must maintain the appropriate certifications where applicable.
- Requires a broad knowledge of general plant maintenance practices in the areas of painting, carpentry, cement finishing, glazing, and roofing.
Preferred:
- Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
- Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
- Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate certifications where such certifications are a requirement of the job.
- For jobs requiring operation of motor vehicles, must maintain a valid drivers license.
Working Conditions:
- Working conditions with exposure to broken concrete, noise, dust, dirt, and chips, and fumes.
Physical Requirements:
- Considerable effort required to operate machinery, excavate and break concrete, and mix and apply cement.
- Requires climbing and use of scaffolds and working in awkward positions.
