Overview
The Department of World Languages & Cultures at Utah State University (USU) invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure-track, renewable term Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, beginning fall 2026. This position will support the Translation & Interpretation and Spanish programs with teaching, service, and administrative support duties.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching translation and interpretation, healthcare Spanish, and/or medical terminology courses, lower-division Spanish courses, and community-based interpretation courses.
  • Language proficiency testing for community-based courses
  • Instructional design
  • Professional development
  • Assisting with program operations
  • Recruiting, data collection and reporting
  • Facilitating or assisting with community-based courses and events statewide
  • Communication with community partners
  • Career success and alumni tracking
  • Collaborating with other faculty in the program
  • Mentoring students, and other related teaching
  • Administrative support duties, as needed in the program and department.
  • May include weekend or online evening community courses, online and virtual teaching, co-teaching, Community Engaged Learning activities.
  • May include summer community course teaching and occasional travel to USU Statewide campuses.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters in Translation & Interpretation, or Masters in Second Language Teaching, or closely related Masters
  • Professional experience in translation and interpretation
  • 3-5 years experience teaching Spanish, ESL, and/or translation & interpretation courses at the university level
  • Experience teaching healthcare Spanish and/or medical terminology at the university level
  • Bilingual Spanish/English, or ACTFL Superior/Distinguished proficiency level in Spanish

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in language proficiency testing
  • Experience in instructional design and Canvas
  • Familiarity with ACTFL Standards
  • Experience in online/virtual/hybrid teaching
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience in community outreach
