A day in the life

The Vice President of Sales, North Dakota is responsible for all activities related to conceptualizing and implementing strategies, achieving sales and revenue targets and successfully managing the sales division. Specific responsibilities include business development; account service and retention; staff performance and development; distribution arrangements, broker relations and sales coordination.

Your responsibilities will include



  • Directs, leads, and oversees employees in accomplishing work objectives within the unit(s). Coaches, motivates, rewards, and recognizes employees. Sets clear goals, objectives, and performance expectations and holds employees accountable for achieving results.
  • Leads all sales directors, managers, and staff across multiple market segments and directs the sales strategy for the book of business in North Dakota.
  • Orchestrates multi-line-of-business sales efforts to enable effective crossselling and overall revenue growth.
  • Drives pipeline creation inside and outside of the company's footprint by cultivating strategic, Csuitelevel relationships that unlock new growth opportunities.
  • Establishes tactics and manages resources necessary to achieve the goals outlined.
  • Supports local product development initiatives in conjunction with larger company market initiatives.
  • Participates on companywide senior product and market development teams to ensure consistency across states.
  • Directs all member retention strategies and all new group sales strategies.
  • Works collaboratively with underwriting leadership to ensure profitable growth.
  • Uses sales reporting to track, measure, and analyze performance.
  • Directs market analysis of local competition to ensure competitive advantage.
  • Directs broker relations and compensation strategies.
  • Ensures all sales communications are coordinated, support marketing and sales plan objectives, and are an effective expenditure of resources, in conjunction with Corporate Communications.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of sales incentive compensation programs for all local business.
  • Provides sales strategy input to advertising and public relations, legislative and regulatory affairs.
  • Develops North Dakota learning plans for sales, account executive, and associates for overall development and sophistication of North Dakota marketfacing team members.
  • Works collaboratively with all internal stakeholders in developing pricing strategies and determining overall rate position in all major lines of business.
  • Builds, develops, and manages a sales team capable of successfully implementing sales strategies.
  • Prepares presentations to management groups, leadership groups, and the boards to explain the company's market position and initiatives.



What you need to succeed



  • A Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Sales Management, or related field.
  • 10 years of experience in progressive/professional-level sales, sales operations, account management, or marketing experience.
  • 7 years of experience in supervisory/staff leadership.
  • Must be currently licensed, or must become licensed within 60 days of hire, to sell insurance (health, life, and/or disability) in North Dakota.
  • Must maintain an active and valid/unencumbered driver's license which allows for standard driving privileges in North Dakota and Minnesota.
  • Ability to provide effective staff leadership, including coaching, motivating, developing, and holding employees accountable to performance expectations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally across audiences.
  • Skilled in delivering presentations that inform, influence, and engage leadership, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated strategic focus with the ability to set direction, identify priorities, and drive execution toward organizational goals.
  • Strong relationshipmanagement skills, including the ability to build trust, collaborate effectively, and maintain productive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Advanced problemsolving and resolution skills with the ability to analyze information, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions in complex situations.



Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards
