Introduction

The Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services is seeking talented and motivated individuals to serve as a Prevention Specialists in the Prevention Intervention summer program. In this role, you will work with a trusted and reputable team that has a history of success connecting individuals and their families with person-centered, recovery-oriented services and supports.

Job Summary

This temporary Prevention Specialist position provides services in our summer program for elementary (4th and 5th grade), middle school, and high school youth through the Prevention & Intervention Program. This position is a temporary summer position, anticipated to last 8-weeks from June 18 - August 14, 2026.
In this position, you will:

  • Provide summer programming to include community service activities and evidence-based substance abuse and violence prevention programs.
  • Apply strong leadership skills and experience in working with high-risk youth.
  • Co-lead groups and activities demonstrating the ability to function effectively in an interagency and collaborative capacity.
  • Organize, support, and lead activities held within a recreational setting.
  • Drive a County owned vehicle to pick up and drop off summer youth participants.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field; 1-year of experience working with high-risk youth, mental health, substance use disorder, and/or prevention services or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (Spanish-speaking) and multilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.
  • Certification as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP).

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

  • Employment is contingent upon successfully passing pre-employment background checks including fingerprinting, credit check, criminal (NCIC), DMV check and a TB test.
  • Successful candidates must have a good driving record and a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence.
  • Must be fitted for N-95 (or similar) mask to safely provide on-site services as needed.
  • Work schedule is 37.5 hours per week.
