Johns Hopkins Hospital is an urban teaching hospital consisting of 1,100 beds with a medical staff of 2,100 full time physicians plus many more APPs. We are seeking an advanced practice provider to join our team to advance the care of our obstetric patients and work to support our obstetricians.

Summary

The Division of Gynecology and Obstetrics at The Johns Hopkins Hospital is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to collaborate within a multidisciplinary health team, delivering comprehensive obstetric care to inpatient populations.

In this role, the provider will manage the triage area of labor and delivery. Responsibilities encompass establishing medical diagnoses, performing diagnostic studies, performing therapeutic procedures, and providing follow-up care. Physical examinations, including pelvic exams, will be conducted, along with other relevant procedures. The provider will maintain accurate documentation.

Accountability for time management, professional relationships, and interpersonal interactions is integral. Participation in continuing education programs, committee involvement, and adherence to hospital policies and procedures are expected.

Responsibilities

• Appropriately and accurately orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests and procedures for adolescent and adult obstetric patients within prescribed protocols and policies.
• Utilizing data obtained from prenatal history, physical examination, laboratory tests, and diagnostic procedures, develops and implements individualized care plan with patient/family based on diagnosis, patient care/age-specific needs, and patient outcomes. This may include additional testing, admission, continued observation, management during the intrapartum period, or discharge home.
• Performs cervical/speculum exams and transvaginal and transabdominal ultrasound as needed. Analyzes fetal monitoring and non-stress tests.
• Performs newborn circumcision when requested.
• Performs Nexplanon placement when requested.
• Prescribes and treats the health needs of patients. Evaluates pharmacotherapeutic and non-pharmacological regimens and prescribes appropriate as authorized.
• Effectively communicates, coordinates, and collaborates in the implementation of plans of care with the nursing staff.
• Accurately evaluates the effectiveness of the plan of care and in conjunction with the appropriate supervising physician, may alter the plan.
• Effectively communicates with adolescent and adult patients, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their care.
• Reviews charts and elicits information necessary for ongoing patient monitoring, screening, treatment, education, and counseling.
• Maintains appropriate patient records. Documents treatment plans, historical and physical findings, consults, teaching, and counseling in compliance with hospital and clinical standards.
• Coordinates care in an inpatient-based setting; sees a wide variety of patients from routine obstetric care to more complex obstetric needs.
• Cares for obstetric patients presenting with a variety of complaints, including nausea/vomiting, hypertensive crisis, vaginal bleeding, decreased fetal movement, preterm labor and rupture of membranes, abdominal pain, vaginal discharge, and labor.
• Initiates contraception for patients (intrauterine device insertion and removals, oral contraceptive pills, Depo-Provera, etc.)
• Practices in accordance with the standards for the practice and defined by the appropriate governing board.
• Works independently and in collaboration with attending physicians, resident physicians, and other advanced practice providers
• Facilitates and actively participates in departmental meetings, continuing medical education programs, research, publication, and quality improvement projects.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Self-motivated individual who is adaptable, a quick learner, and is confident working independently
• Master's degree in an appropriate field.
• Current Maryland license in good standing
• Certified by the appropriate licensing board
• Required less than one year of applicable experience, preferred 1 - 3 years
• NPI number, DEA, and CDS required
• BLS, ACLS required

Salary Range: Minimum 53.15/hour - Maximum 82.38/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
