Position Summary
This professional position is responsible for accounting, tax, and financial reporting tasks for the UGA Athletic Association, the UGA Research Foundation, and UGA Real Estate Foundation. This position reports directly to the Director of Accounting and will work closely with other accounting personnel in the Accounting department.

Duties include, but are not limited to,:

  • Perform professional accounting duties for the UGA Athletic Association, UGA Research Foundation, and UGA Real Estate Foundation. This responsibility includes preparation and review of reports.
  • Coordinate and manage the financial statement audits and tax filings for these affiliated organizations
  • Work closely with the business offices and leadership of the Office of Research, Real Estate Foundation, and Athletic Association.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Extensive knowledge of accounting standards, regulations, procedures.
  • Ability to work independently on complex issues.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work successfully with co-workers, senior management, external auditors, and consultants.
  • Experience with financial accounting systems, tax requirements, auditing, and tax preparation.

Athletic Association - Provide high-level accounting work for the UGA Athletic Association, Inc. entity, which includes, but is not limited to the following: Review and monitor monthly reconciliation activities. Plan, organize and manage annual financial reporting and tax return activities. Complete year-end procedures and related journal entries. Review balance sheet account journal entries and balances. Coordinate and record fixed assets, prepare journal entries for capitalized assets and record depreciation at year end. Prepare financial statements including management discussion & analysis and notes disclosures ( GASB statements). Coordinate and manage annual audit with external auditors and according to a schedule as required by the University and the University System of Georgia. Prepare annual financial reporting schedules to UGA Accounting department per USG provided templates. Coordinate preparation of IRS form 990 with external tax preparer. Review annual ticket AUP performed by external auditors. Prepare or review various other reports, surveys and tax returns:

  • Property Tax Returns
  • Annual Surveys
  • Other reports as required


Plan, organize & manage other reporting and financial management functions:
- Prepare financial reports and supplemental materials for board meetings.
- Maintain and evaluate fiscal policy/procedure and internal control standards for compliance with accounting and auditing standards. Recommend internal control improvements to management.
- Evaluate changes in accounting standards and tax regulations and communicate their impact to management. Maintain entity compliance with new standards and requirements.

Real Estate Foundation - Provide support for all accounting functions pertaining to the fiscal operation of UGA Real Estate Foundation, Inc. Performs review of monthly bank reconciliations. Performs monitoring of internal control procedures. Assist with annual preparation of audit and reporting as required by management and independent auditors. Support may include weekly issuance and recording of automatic payments/disbursement requests, recording deposits and related journal entries, and performing monthly reconciliation of the cash and sweep accounts and reviews trustee reconciliations.

Research Foundation - Provide support for all accounting functions pertaining to the fiscal operation of UGA Research Foundation, Inc. Performs review of monthly bank reconciliations. Performs monitoring of internal control procedures. Assist with annual preparation of audit and reporting as required by management and independent auditors. Support may include weekly issuance and recording of payments/disbursement requests, recording deposits and related journal entries, and performing monthly reconciliation of the bank and investment accounts.

Duties/Responsibilities
Financial/Business Analysis - Perform financial/business analysis and reconciliations of financial transactions and balances of UGA financial data, including reconciliations between subsystems and the general ledger. Assist in the preparation and analysis of various financial and statistical data and reports required by University management, the Board of Regents office, state audit, or other external agencies. This responsibility includes timely compilation and detailed documentation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and reconciliations using accounting and budget data information.
