Job Summary:

The Security Officer/EMT helps keep employees, guests, and the property safe. This includes monitoring access, responding to emergencies, protecting assets, and following company policies. The role also involves writing clear reports, supporting emergency procedures, and maintaining a professional and welcoming environment. Responsible for supporting the Company's mission, vision, and values by providing an unparalleled experience of fun and entertainment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Lead by example.


  • Responsible for maintaining a high degree of hospitality, as well as a positive and professional demeanor at all times.
  • Creates high levels of morale, fosters teamwork, inspires collaboration, and provides suggestions for growth to management.
  • Responds to incidents including medical emergencies, severe weather, fires, thefts, assaults, bomb threats, evacuations, policy violations, conflicts, and other criminal activity; administers first aid as needed.
  • Monitors and controls the entry and exit of employees, guests, and visitors to safeguard against theft and ensure the safety and security of the premises.
  • Provides escorts for individuals and oversees the secure transport of cash, sensitive documents, and other valuable assets.
  • Prepares detailed, accurate incident reports, ensuring all documentation is clear, professional, and appropriate for distribution as required.
  • When assigned to the Security Office, monitors CCTV systems, radio communications, and alarm systems; manages equipment sign-in and sign-out procedures; and answers incoming security office calls.
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of Canterbury Park's Emergency Action Plan and evacuation procedures and executes emergency protocols as directed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:



  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • CPR certification, or ability to obtain, required before working independently.
  • Excellent communication skills, judgment, high moral integrity and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to interact cordially with all guests, employees, and the public.
  • Ability to quickly assess and evaluate situations, identify critical issues, and respond accurately while following established protocols.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be able to pass Canterbury Park's pre-employment screening, including a criminal background check, work history verification, drug screening, and compliance with the Safe Driving Policy.
  • Must be able to attain a Minnesota Racing Commission (MRC) license.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Holds a valid EMT certification recognized in the state of Minnesota; compensation may vary based on certification level and qualifications.
  • Previous education and/or experience in Law Enforcement.
  • High School Diploma/GED OR any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable.

  • Maintain a flexible working schedule, which may include nights and weekends.
  • Active role requiring continuous movement across work areas; the employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally climb stairs or navigate inclines and uneven terrain throughout the shift.
  • Ability to operate and communicate through speaking and hearing via radio or telephone equipment.
  • This position sometimes involves working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
