The Opportunity

Ulteig is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Design Electrical Engineer working in the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) Department. The Design Electrical Engineer will perform routine engineering tasks primarily in the system protection discipline.

What You'll Do



  • Performs short-circuit and symmetrical component analysis, time-current coordination, step-distance coordination, relay settings development, NERC compliance, and coordination studies under the supervision of a lead engineer
  • Apply protection system engineering practices and principles in the following areas: transmission line, bus, transformer, capacitor bank, reactor bank, feeder, generator, motor, and communication-assisted protection schemes



What We Expect from You




  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Applies current, standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to complete engineering tasks
  • Develops plans, specifications, and observation reports to see that these items are complete, accurate, and in accordance with sound engineering practice
  • Practices efficiency engineering as it pertains to design selection
  • Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality
  • Works closely with engineering technicians and experienced electrical engineers
  • Performs detailed engineering design and evaluations within specialty
  • Takes ownership of quality
  • Responsible for completing tasks and projects in the allotted time
  • Prepares reports and correspondence concerning the direction of assigned projects
  • May participate in marketing, sales, and business development activities within an assigned market
  • Demonstrates a wide degree of creativity and latitude
  • Effectively communicates and interacts with clients to ensure we are meeting their needs
  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects



Education & Licensure




  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) required.
  • Passed the EIT exam, preferred
  • Master's degree is a plus.



Experience



  • 2+ years of engineering experience.
  • Expertise in system modeling and fault analysis software (ASPEN, CAPE, ETAP, EasyPower).
  • Strong knowledge of relay coordination and protective settings for 12.47 kV-345 kV systems (500 kV/765 kV a plus).
  • Familiarity with NERC PRC standards.



Preferred Skills



  • On-site commissioning and relay testing experience.
  • IEEE Power System Relaying and Control Committee membership.
  • Ability to review and produce design drawings (one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams).
  • Knowledge of SCADA, communications, substation equipment, NEC.
  • Valid driver's license and permanent U.S. work authorization.


Work Location Flexibility

    Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $85,000 - $115,000
    * Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role and comparison to other employees already in this role
