Job Summary


The Clinical Social Worker II will be on the social work/behavioral health team at the UCSF Women's HIV Program (WHP). WHP is an outpatient primary care clinic for women with HIV (WWH) that uses an innovative model of trauma-informed healthcare (TIHC) to provide culturally sensitive and effective integrated medical and behavioral health care to patients as well as nurturing support to staff and providers. WHP has a strong multidisciplinary team of providers and staff to address patients' needs in a holistic and integrated way-including primary care, pharmacy, Ob/Gyn, psychiatry, therapy, social work, case management, substance use, and nursing.

The Clinical Social Worker II's primary responsibilities are psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, brief therapeutic interventions, complex discharge planning, consultation, education, community linkages, supportive services, and facilitating the plan of care through the health care continuum for patients, families, significant others, and staff, with particular focus on high-risk populations.

The Clinical Social Worker II will provide therapeutic support and coordinate resources and services in response to patients' psychosocial needs while collaborating with Case Managers, Nursing Staff, Medical Staff, and ancillary departments with the goal of supporting a timely and safe discharges and/or meet the continuum of care needs within the fiscal realities of the case. The CSW II will practice within the scope of UCSF's mission statement: Caring, Healing, Teaching, Discovering; and the values statement of UCSF's Everyday PRIDE: Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity, Excellence.

The CSW II will participate in department education and practice improvement activities and will provide social work services to any patient regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, social, cultural, educational or religious background, language, age, ancestry, citizenship, color, national origin, race, presence of mental or physical disability, source of payment for care, medical condition, marital status or status as a veteran.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $42.86 - $73.96 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Medicine is the largest department in the School of Medicine at UCSF. The mission of the Department is research, education, patient care and public service. The Department has more than 450 full-time faculty at four sites - Parnassus, Mount Zion, Veteran's Administration Medical Center, and San Francisco General Hospital - and approximately 60 divisions. Central Administration at the Parnassus/Laurel Heights sites is responsible for directing the administrative functions of the Department via its sites and divisions, including the provision of research administration services for its faculty.

The Division of Infectious Diseases consists of 110 faculty, fellows, and staff whose work is grounded in deep commitment the highest standards of clinical care and teaching, as well as research leading to new approaches to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases. The Division of Infectious Diseases employs and trains leaders in academic, superb clinical researcher scientists and basic scientists, and outstanding clinicians. Our faculty are leading experts in adult infectious diseases.

Required Qualifications


  • Masters degree from a CSWE accredited school of Social Work.
  • ASW certification

Preferred Qualifications


  • 1 year in an outpatient medical or behavioral health setting and direct clinical experience in the treatment of multiply diagnosed clients (mental health conditions, substance abuse, medical issues, etc.).
  • Lived experience of and/or professional experience addressing HIV, trauma, racism and/or other forms of discrimination, substance use, mental health concerns, and chronic health conditions.
  • Experience in facilitating groups with multiply diagnosed clients.
  • Experience assessing and treating trauma and substance use in adults.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish - written, reading, and oral proficiency.
