What to Expect

At Tesla Energy, we're revolutionizing how the world stores and distributes sustainable energy through our Megapacks, Powerwalls, and Superchargers. As a Senior Fleet Software Engineer, you'll play a critical role in maintaining and optimizing our global energy product fleets, working across the entire technology stack from Linux-based platforms to small microcontroller systems with RTOS.

This is an opportunity to own key projects that directly impact our mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. You'll collaborate across engineering teams, solve complex fleet challenges, and develop software solutions that enhance the reliability and efficiency of our energy products worldwide.

What You'll Do
  • Drive software initiatives to improve customer product behavior and enhance system reliability across Megapacks, Powerwalls, and Superchargers
  • Work closely with various software engineering teams (embedded systems, backend services, data platforms, Linux development) to design comprehensive solutions that address fleet operational challenges across the entire technology stack
  • Design and implement new firmware/software features for energy products, working across diverse platforms including C/C++ for RTOS microcontroller environments, Go/Rust for backend services, and system-level software for Linux-based platforms
  • Partner with fleet operations teams to design and develop software features and tools that streamline commissioning processes, enhance service workflows, and improve overall fleet management efficiency for energy products
  • Track fleet-wide performance metrics across Megapacks, Powerwalls, and Superchargers, identify optimization opportunities, and develop software improvements that enhance reliability and user experience
  • Ensure seamless integration between heterogeneous systems including Linux-based control platforms, RTOS microcontroller networks, cloud services, and edge computing solutions through custom firmware/software development

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of software engineering experience, or equivalent experience
  • Either expert-level proficiency in low-level C/C++ for embedded/RTOS systems OR with embedded Linux
  • Experience developing software across diverse platforms including Linux-based systems, RTOS environments, and microcontroller architectures (full-stack experience is a plus)
  • Experience with energy storage, power electronics, or distributed energy systems preferred (Megapack/Powerwall/Supercharger experience a plus)
  • Experience working with large-scale operational systems, preferably with fleet management of distributed hardware or IoT/energy systems preferred
  • Strong ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines and drive consensus on technical solutions spanning multiple technology layers
  • Demonstrated experience in triaging complex issues, root cause analysis, and implementing effective software mitigations across heterogeneous systems
  • Hands-on experience with microcontroller peripherals, communication protocols (CAN, Modbus, SPI, I2C), and real-time operating systems
  • Understanding of operational efficiency, service workflows, and the ability to translate operational needs into technical requirements for energy products
  • Proficiency in Go and/or Rust for user space Linux applications is a plus
