What you will do:

The Controls Engineering Intern is responsible for supporting design, development, validation, and support of active magnetic bearing (AMB) control system software and firmware. This is a 20-40 hour per week position.

How you will do it:

Design, develop, and validate new and updated embedded AMB control system software:

  • Design and implement software

  • Code and debug

  • Analyze system performance

  • Integrate software with hardware

  • Create documentation

  • Support software quality assurance

What we look for:

Required:

  • Pursuing bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering. Rising Senior.

  • Coursework or projects involving embedded control system software development.

Preferred:

Hard Skills

  • Development of application-optimized real-time closed-loop control systems including:

  • Proficiency in C and C++ Programming

  • Microcontrollers and Microprocessors

  • Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)

  • Hardware-Software Integration

  • Debugging and Testing Techniques

  • Embedded Software Design Patterns

  • Communication Protocols: I2C, SPI, and UART

  • Power Management

  • Cybersecurity

  • Assembly Language

Soft Skills

  • Troubleshooting: able to investigate root causes and implement countermeasures

  • Prioritization: able to select the next best action from among multiple competing priorities.

  • Self-management: able to complete multiple, complex, interdisciplinary tasks with limited guidance.

  • Communication: able to express ideas and share information clearly and efficiently across the full range of communication modes: in-person meetings, remote conferencing, email, chat, and documents.

  • Collaboration: works well with other members of multidisciplinary teams to accomplish shared objectives.

  • Third party relations: establishes good working relationships with customer and supplier representatives. Supports their technical needs while respecting the bounds of commercial agreements and resource limitations.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $19.00 - $24.00 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge,skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
