Summary:

The Pharmacy Tech II will assist the Pharmacist in providing professional pharmacy services to the patients and staff of Cook Children's Medical Center and the community we serve. Clerical tasks will encompass answering phones, recording, filing, and reporting pharmacy activities and services. The technical tasks will be performed after experience is gained, and necessary skills and competency demonstrated. Documentation of training must be on file prior to working independently. All tasks will be performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Must be competent in following pharmacy production areas: Central PO area, Advanced Omnicell processing, advanced non-sterile compounding, and compliance audits. Must also be competent in advanced sterile preparation (including but not limited to specialized training in TPNs or Chemotherapy), and/or must be trained and working in a specialized area such as pharmacy satellites.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
  • Must have worked a minimum of 1 year in CCMC pharmacy and gained knowledge in advanced areas or have at least 1 year of sterile compounding experience in a hospital setting.
  • A basic knowledge of math, the metric system, pharmaceutical chemistry, and medical terminology is essential.
  • A general knowledge of office procedures such as filling and record keeping is essential.
  • Good telephone skills and good oral communication skills are essential.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) OR enrolled in ACPE accredited school of pharmacy.
  • Texas State Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration OR Texas Pharmacy Intern License.
  • ACPE IV certification required.
