Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Utilize the Information System to receive samples, order tests, answer questions from nurses and physicians, document quality control activities and produce reports required to perform job tasks.
- Confirms accuracy of patient sample identification prior to performing processes; evaluates specimen quality and identifies when unacceptable. Documents information concerning quality of specimen.
- Prepares sections of human tissue for immediate examination, using rapid tissue processing and frozen section technique to freeze, cut, mount and stain tissue specimens received from surgery.
- Operates tissue processing equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by Pathologist.
- Performs tissue sectioning using microtome, prepares slides, stains and coverslips.
- Performs special and immunohistochemical stains and procedures as necessary.
- Performs gross examination on designated specimens using canned comments under the direction of a Pathologist.
- Maintains filing system and records for slides, blocks and tissues.
- Performs daily preventative maintenance of equipment.

Education and Experience
Graduate of an approved Histotechnology program preferred. Must be qualified to perform high complexity testing according to CLIA 493.1489 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications.
Certification and Licensure
ASCP certification preferred.

$24.60 - $36.91
