Job Summary

The Mayo Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) seeks a highly motivated Senior Research Scientist with a PhD and postdoctoral training in immunology to advance the lab's research programs focused on autoimmune disease, antigen-specific immune tolerance, and translational immunology. Must have substantial scientific independence, project ownership, and opportunities to shape the strategic direction of the lab's research that follows from the recent Olson et al. PNAS publication (doi: 10.1073/pnas.2501046122).

Essential Job Duties
  • Design, execute, and interpret complex in vitro and in vivo immunology experiments.
  • Drive data generation for high-impact publications and grant applications.
  • Analyze and present data at lab meetings, conferences, and in manuscripts.
  • Coordinate collaborations between labs, core facilities, academic institutions, and companies.
  • Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and/or research staff as appropriate.
  • Contribute to grant preparation and scientific reporting.
Basic Qualifications
  • PhD in Immunology or a closely related biomedical discipline.
  • Must have a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Postdoctoral research experience with a strong publication record.
  • Deep expertise in cellular and molecular immunology.
  • Demonstrated expertise in techniques such as flow cytometry, immune cell culture and functional assays, ELISA, Western, cytokine profiling, antigen-specific readouts, murine or other in vivo models of immune function or autoimmunity.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with autoimmune disease, immunetolerance, or chronic inflammation.
  • Familiarity with translational or preclinical research concepts.
  • Experience with advanced platforms such as single-cell RNA-seq, TCR repertoire analysis, or immunogenomics.
  • Interest in therapeutic modalities (e.g., biologics, nanoparticles, gene-based approaches).

Hiring Range

$78,200 - $147,500 Per Year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
