Job Summary
Applies advanced knowledge of principles, theories and concepts, industry practices and standards to coordinate and administer wide area computer network activities in a twenty-four (24) hour seven (7) day per week mission critical environment. Manages assigned projects in a development, test and production environment.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
- Serves as technical expert on network systems and software architecture and performance.
- Utilizes an extensive advanced mastery of network systems in developing network design.
- Develops network and infrastructure concepts and requirements to meet IT network needs and assists system engineers to modelling of the IT network and systems environment.
- Influences the overall network security technology road map, design and architecture standards.
- Designs advanced routing and switching solutions. Completes component and web service based network architectures.
- Develops, communicates and maintains up to date, accurate documentation of all network components and systems.
- Plans for future capacity and executes related action plans.
- Develops and implements disaster recovery procedures.
- Supports system engineers and other IT technology experts to provide a reliable IT network and infrastructure.
- Implements advanced network configurations.
Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment. |
| Minimum Qualifications |
Education Requirements
Minimum 4 Year / Bachelors Degree. Computer Science or related technical degree If applicable, a combination of experience and training may be substituted for the education requirement.Experience Requirements 8 or more years of experience year(s) Related experience and/or training. year(s) Experience should be in some or all of the following areas: 24X7 mission critical environment and support, storage area networking, capacity planning, hardware and software configuration and installations, troubleshooting and problem management, switching and routing, backup and recovery applications, disaster recovery planning and DNS and load balancing. Skills and Competencies
- Communicates effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms.
- Makes telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel and makes formal presentations to small or large groups.
- Competent in the use of standard software applications.
- Knowledge of clustering, system tuning, performance monitoring tools and voiceover IP.
- Understand IP and complex routed IP networks, Virtual Private Networks (VPN), firewalls and implementing encryption protocols.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. Additionally, those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
