Summary

The Senior Compliance Specialist, Carrier Auditor role conducts comprehensive in-person audits and compliance assessments of third-party motor carriers to determine eligibility for High Risk / High Value freight within DSV Road. The role evaluates operational practices, safety and security procedures, equipment condition, driver qualifications, and telematics capabilities to ensure compliance with DSV policies, customer requirements, and regulatory standards. Using independent judgment, the auditor assesses carrier risk and makes approval, conditional approval, or disqualification recommendations while partnering with Carrier Services, Group Security, Safety & Compliance, and Operations to address corrective actions. This position is critical to protecting DSV cargo, customers, and brand reputation by reducing fraud, theft exposure, and operational failures, and requires frequent domestic travel, with approximately 50% or more of time spent conducting on-site audits and representing DSV professionally with carrier leadership and drivers. This role also acts as backup to our Compliance

Duties & Responsibilities

Carrier Audit & Certification



  • Plan, schedule, and conduct mandatory on-site carrier audits for new and existing third-party motor carriers.
  • Evaluate carrier eligibility for High Risk / High Value freight based on DSV operational, security, and compliance standards.
  • Perform driver interviews, ride-along observations, and dispatch procedure reviews.
  • Inspect tractors, trailers, and yard operations for safety, maintenance, and cargo security compliance.
  • Assess facility security controls including yard access, parking procedures, surveillance practices, and key management.
  • Validate required telematics functionality including GPS tracking, geofencing, immobilization, distress/panic alerts, and monitoring capability.
  • Verify driver qualifications, licensing, insurance coverage, and equipment documentation.
  • Confirm adherence to DSV Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including seal management, load securement, and chain-of-custody protocols.
  • Analyze audit observations and supporting documentation, interpret DSV policies and standards, and apply professional judgment to determine carrier compliance status beyond checklist criteria.
  • Determine whether carriers meet DSV operational and security risk tolerances and provide approval, conditional approval, or disqualification recommendations that directly impact whether DSV may utilize the carrier for freight movements.



Risk Identification & Compliance Monitoring



  • Identify operational, safety, and security risks including fraud indicators, subcontracting practices, and potential double brokering.
  • Validate compliance with zero-tolerance standards and escalate discrepancies immediately.
  • Document audit findings, supporting evidence, photographs, and interview notes in accordance with documentation retention standards.
  • Evaluate the severity of compliance failures, determine appropriate corrective action requirements, and establish remediation expectations necessary for continued carrier eligibility.
  • Monitor carriers for remediation compliance and participate in annual and periodic carrier recertifications.



Incident Readiness & Response



  • Evaluate carrier knowledge of emergency response protocols including cargo deviations, theft response, and law-enforcement engagement.
  • Verify secure stop procedures, route adherence, and seal verification processes.
  • Support investigations following cargo theft, loss, or security incidents by providing audit records and operational assessments.
  • Partner with Group Security and Operations during active incidents when requested.



Disqualification & Escalation



  • Identify and document critical failures such as:

    • Double brokering
    • Unsecured equipment
    • Disabled or tampered telematics
    • Improper seal procedures
    • Failure to follow emergency protocols


  • Exercise independent judgment in identifying material risk conditions and recommend carrier suspension, restriction, or removal from the approved carrier network.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to Carrier Services, Security, and leadership.



Program Collaboration & Reporting



  • Collaborate with Carrier Services and Operations to communicate audit outcomes and operational expectations.
  • Provide training or guidance to carriers regarding DSV security and operational requirements.
  • Maintain accurate audit schedules and reporting metrics.
  • Track carrier audit status and recertification timelines.
  • Identify trends, recurring risks, and program improvement opportunities and report to leadership.



Other duties and projects as assigned.



  • Provide occasional cross-functional support and coverage for the Quality Assurance Specialist and Compliance Specialist roles as business needs require.



Qualifications & Experience



  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation, Criminal Justice, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in transportation, logistics operations, safety, compliance, investigations, or carrier management.
  • Experience working with motor carriers, freight brokerage operations, or trucking safety programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, driver qualification standards, and equipment requirements strongly preferred.
  • Experience performing audits, inspections, or compliance assessments preferred.
  • Understanding of cargo security practices, theft prevention, and high-value freight handling preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, with the ability to document findings, analyze information, and prepare audit reports.
  • Prior field-based or travel-heavy role preferred.

Physical Demands

This position requires frequent walking throughout carrier yards, terminals, and parking areas for extended periods of time. The employee must be able to climb into and out of commercial tractors and trailers, bend, crouch, and visually inspect equipment and cargo securement areas. The role may require lifting and carrying materials and inspection tools up to approximately 25 pounds. The employee must also be able to take photographs, observe equipment condition, and complete inspection documentation while on site.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in field environments including carrier yards, terminals, warehouses, truck stops, and during ride-along observations in commercial vehicles. The position requires frequent domestic travel and may involve short-notice travel based on audit urgency or security incidents. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation, as well as noise and moving equipment typical of transportation environments. Work schedules may vary based on carrier operating hours and may occasionally require evening or weekend work. When not traveling, the position functions in a remote or home-office setting completing administrative documentation, reporting, and coordination responsibilities.

For this position, the expected base pay range is $68,000 - $82,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including relevant experience, skills, education or certifications, and geographic location, consistent with applicable laws and company policy.
