The Purchaser plays a critical role in ensuring that production operations run seamlessly by securing the materials and resources needed to support business demand. This position is responsible for leading all site purchasing activities, managing supplier relationships, and driving costeffective procurement strategies that align with quality and delivery requirements. With a strong focus on inventory control, process improvement, and category management, the Purchaser serves as a key partner to both internal teams and external suppliers. Success in this role requires a proactive mindset, strong analytical skills, and the ability to balance urgency with strategic decisionmaking in a fastpaced manufacturing environment.

The salary range for this position is $78,000 to $84,000 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity. This range is provided to ensure clarity and promote equitable access to employment opportunities.


Responsibilities

Primary Tasks & General Responsibilities



  • Uphold ethical standards related to safety, quality, and food safety policies, including adherence to the TC
  • Transcontinental Code of Conduct.
  • Comply with all plant standards such as HSW, GMP, SQF, and Continuous Improvement processes.
  • Report any safety, quality, or food safety issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.


Specific Purchasing & Procurement Duties



  • Lead all purchasing activities for the site.
  • Create and manage all purchase orders.
  • Negotiate contracts for price, delivery, and quality.
  • Procure packaging and raw materials that meet cost, quality, and timeline requirements.
  • Provide monthly supplier forecasts.
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials required for production.
  • Manage and reduce inventory to targeted levels.
  • Create reporting for management, including cost savings tracking.
  • Monitor and advise on risks or opportunities related to materials or suppliers.
  • Collaborate with internal/external production teams on category management and purchasing optimization projects.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to maximize value.
  • Create SOPs to support process continuity.
  • Resolve supplier issues related to pricing, quality, delivery, or invoices.
  • Minimize expired and obsolete inventory by avoiding excess purchasing.

  • Identify manufacturing and quality issues and assist leadership in resolving them.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly work area.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 3 years of procurement and supply chain experience.
  • Manufacturing industry experience preferred; flexible packaging or printing is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in Excel.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with ERP systems.
