Summary: Successful applicants for this position will be experienced teachers committed to designing dynamic, engaging, hands-on, student-centered classes that go beyond textbooks. The Summer Scholars program is designed to mimic, in every way, boarding school life. The goal of the program is to have Scholars leave the program feeling "known." Many of the Scholars hope to come to Lawrenceville and therefore, all faculty should apply the Harkness Teaching method to their classes.. In addition to designing and implementing class curricula, teachers are responsible for ensuring Scholars' safety and medical well-being during class hours and lunch (teachers will receive training in regard to Scholars with life-threatening allergies). Prior to the start date of the program, teachers will be required to attend one two to four-hour virtual orientation, date TBD, and be present in-person on move-in day (July 5, 2026) from 10:30 am to -4:00pm, actual time commitment may be less. In advance of the program, teachers will be required to submit their 15-day class plans. During the program, in addition to their teaching responsibilities, teachers will be expected to attend faculty meetings should any arise, attend and supervise during lunch, and write end-of-session narrative comments for each student. A template for comment writing will be provided. The time teachers spend in/on any/all meetings/training sessions, class preparation, grading, comment writing, meeting with Scholars, or communicating with the administrative team is included in the salary. NOTE: We are unable to accommodate any faculty who need to take time off for vacations, etc., during the dates of employment. This is a fully in-person position, as the essential functions of the role require direct, on-campus engagement with students, faculty, and staff.
