Job Summary:

The Senior Professional Development Manager will be part of the leadership team managing Choate's industry-leading talent development efforts. This position will include coaching and counseling attorneys in the Finance & Restructuring Department to help them become exceptional lawyers and navigate their careers at Choate. The person in this role will also work with other senior PD team members to continually enhance and execute Choate's robust professional development agenda.

Primary Job Functions:

  • Serve as the primary professional development advisor for the Finance & Restructuring Department, developing a deep understanding of the practice's work, needs, and goals, while coaching attorneys and partnering with practice leadership and the Firm's professional development team to create and execute practice-specific talent development strategies.
  • Work closely with our knowledge management team to ensure F&R attorneys are leading edge in terms of their understanding and application of industry-leading artificial intelligence tools.
  • Collaborate with F&R market leads to enhance the commercial awareness and skills of the group's associates and principals.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning and execution of Firmwide professional development programs including mentoring and feedback programs, skilltracking efforts, training curricula, and the annual attorney review and compensation process.
  • Collaborate across the Professional Development department, Legal Recruiting, Human Resources, practice leadership, and firm committees to ensure alignment with strategic initiatives and to deliver a cohesive, effective experience throughout the attorney lifecycle.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and developments affecting the department and the Firm, promote innovative thinking and creativity, and empower others to exercise sound decision-making and good judgment.

  • Leads by delegating, coaching, and motivating attorneys and colleagues to reach their highest levels of performance and engagement, proactively identifying and supporting their training and development needs.
  • Skilled at building relationships and credibility required to successfully coach and counsel attorneys at the associate and partner levels; comfortable and knowledgeable in most effective approaches to influence the behavior of others and give feedback to help attorneys achieve their professional development goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to engage effectively across varied audiences.
  • Utilizes criticalthinking and problemsolving skills to make informed decisions, resolve issues proactively, and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Maintains active lines of communication within and between departments to share knowledge and support collaborative efforts, organizational change, and goal achievement.
  • Exceptionally organized and able to manage competing demands in a fastpaced environment, adjusting to evolving priorities.
  • Utilizes innovative thinking, creativity, and sound analytics and decision-making to ensure the highest level of achievement, productivity, and work satisfaction.
  • Able to handle confidential information and matters with discretion and good judgment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Juris Doctor with deal experience a plus but not required.
  • 10+ years of management experience in professional development within a law firm, law school, or professional services environment is required.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Comfortable using AI tools including Copilot.
  • Knowledge of Vi suite and UKG Ready, or other HRIS system helpful.

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below and represents our good faith and reasonable estimate of the salary range for this specific position at the time of posting. In addition, this role is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on performance. The actual offered rate for this position will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to qualifications and experience, education, external market data and consideration of internal equity.
