Pay Grade: 13


Salary Range: 112,373 - $193,243


Actual compensation within the pay range will be decided based on factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior relevant experience, and specific work location.



Principal Objective


The Business Banking Underwriter Team Lead will plan and direct all activities of the Business Banking Underwriting Department and Loan Operations area for all business banking loans.



Principal Duties and Responsibilities



  • Responsible for underwriting quality Small Business Loans, ACH/RDC transactions, Business Banking C&I Loans including Condominium Association Loans, Commercial Investment Real Estate loans, and Low to Moderate Income (LMI) Loans. Loan range is generally $250m to $5MM
  • Responsible for portfolio management, completion of annual reviews, and loan documentation preparation and review.
  • Responsible for development of underwriting knowledge and capabilities of the staff to meet the bank's needs.
  • Work closely with the Branches, Business Banking Sales Team and other internal business partners.


  • Manage department activities by providing leadership, training, and operational planning.
  • Manage operational systems and processes and policies.
  • Administration of and compliance with department self-monitoring quality control program.
  • Manage vendor fulfillment of contract responsibilities.
  • Assure compliance and credit risk with all Bank loan policies and procedures as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.
  • Manage operational projects to improve processes and efficiency within Business Banking Lending.
  • Work with the Director of Business Banking to review and implement changes to improve policy and procedures affecting Business Banking Lending.
  • Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities which may be reasonably expected of the role and as necessary in order to achieve the bank's goals.



Job Specifications (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required)



  • Minimum of 10 years experience in Business Banking/Commercial Underwriting
  • Minimum of 5 years managerial experience in business banking underwriting.
  • Knowledge and experience with small business underwriting with attention to the 5 C's of Credit: Character (FICO), Capacity, Capital, Collateral, & Condition.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of various loan products including: SBA 504.
  • Extensive knowledge of small business lending regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve business targets.
  • Ability to work independently. Self-motivated.


  • PC Literacy including; Word, Excel, Power Point and proficient with the use and functionality of various Loan Origination Systems (i.e. Baker Hill, Laser Pro, and nCino).
