The purpose of this position is to maintain the City's water supply. This is accomplished by maintaining the operation and maintenance of pump stations and the water and wastewater systems. Other duties may include providing customer service, locating water and wastewater lines, maintaining pumps and motors, providing various forms or administrative service, providing janitorial and sanitation services and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

Essential Functions
-
This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.
- Oversees operation and maintenance of the pump station by running the SCADA system to ensure maintenance of proper levels, identifying problems, maintaining daily and monthly records, cleaning exterior and interior of station, including equipment, removing debris and assisting with water samples.
- Oversees operation and maintenance of water and wastewater system by monitoring water levels in storage facilities, pumps and valves supplying water to storage facilities, chlorine levels and system for problems that may interrupt service or cause unsafe drinking water conditions.
- Provides customer service by responding to after hours calls, both emergency and non-emergency, including reconnects, new service, main breaks and City wide issues, contacting appropriate City personnel and answering questions from citizens.
- Locates water and wastewater lines for crews by recording and maintaining data on location and age of lines, providing upgrades and confirming data recorded regarding lines.
- Maintains pumps and motors by greasing equipment, monitoring temperatures of bearing and unusual noises and ensuring all valves operate properly.
- Provides various administrative services by maintaining records of tardiness and absences, answering phones, maintaining files, notebooks and logs, coordinating inventories, orders and appointments, dispatching personnel to investigate possible problem areas, overseeing time sheets for accuracy and compiling research on costs for budgetary and insurance purposes.
- Provides janitorial and sanitation services by cleaning and mopping station floors daily, cleaning kitchen and bathroom facilities daily, dusting, cleaning windows and furniture and ordering supplies for sanitation and janitorial needs.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six (6) months/one (1) year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
- One (1) year of relevant work experience.

Certification and Other Requirements
- Valid Class C Drivers License
- Class C Water Distribution License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), or the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire

Reading
Advanced - Ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in at the college level or above. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Math
Intermediate - Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Writing
Basic - Ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or series of numbers, names, and addresses. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Managerial
Receives limited directions. The employee normally performs the duty assignment according to his or her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. The assignment may be reviewed upon completion. Performance is reviewed periodically.
