Maintenance Mechanic - EPA Facility - Cincinnati, Ohio

Summary:

The role performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge (but not proficiency) in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical work.

Essential Duties:

  • Replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures and lamps, changing filters, motors, and housekeeping of mechanical spaces
  • Using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings
  • Repairing sinks, water coolers, toilets, painting structures and equipment
  • Repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps and sidewalks
  • Replacing damaged paneling and replacing broken windowpanes
  • Performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery.



Education and/or Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum 3 years of maintenance and repair experience in commercial or government facilities.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical HVAC systems and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to work in varied environmental conditions and respond to emergency calls as needed.



Critical Factors for Success:

  • Knowledge of building repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of general mechanical, electrical and/or carpentry.
  • Knowledge of drywall, wood framing, concrete, and other building materials.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures.
  • Skill in operation of hand and power tools.
  • Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work.
  • Skill in public and interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.



Communication Skills:

Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, managers, and staff members. Ability to write reports. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, fellow employees, and customers.


Reasoning Ability:

Must be able to read and interpret various information to ensure procedures are followed.
