Description

The Associate Financial Consultant (AFC) position is part of the Atlantic Union Financial Consultants Team Development Program. This position will spend time learning and cross-training in a variety of roles to provide exposure, competence and proficiency in the required skills and systems to position the team member to be a Financial Consultant either on a team with a Senior Financial Consultant or Wealth Financial Consultant at the end of the 24-36 month program.

During the time that a team member is in the AUFC AFC role they may spend time in three distinct phases:



  • Phase 1 - Licensing and Support, if individual is not currently licensed, they will be responsible for becoming fully licensed in first 120 days of employment. During the support training, the team member will be responsible for acting as a liaison between clients, Financial Consultants, and back-office operations. See CA3 Job Description for more details.
  • Phase 2 - Providing advice and guidance. During this phase the individual is responsible for overall management of AUIC client relationships to ensure continuity of high quality service, as well as financial planning and solution delivery. In addition, as part of AUIC, the team member will act as liaison for back-office operations and local branch client based project management activities to which assigned--including handling incoming client calls, general servicing, compliance, retention, and managing goals and objectives.   • Phase 3 - During this phase the team member will begin working with an assigned book of business and be responsible for the overall management of these client relationships while ensuring continuity of high quality service, as well as financial planning and solution delivery. Time spent in these phases may vary depending on the team member's experience, licensing and background.

Position Accountabilities

During Phase 1:



  • Assists Senior/Wealth Financial Consultants
  • Ensure that each customer receives an outstanding client experience.
  • Maintain and service client needs for both brokerage and direct accounts
  • Communicate with teammates inside and others outside the corporation to exchange information and/or provide customer service.
  • Establish, maintain and update department files and/or client files and records.
  • Compile data and perform moderate mathematical calculations such as preparing reports and correspondence as needed.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and practices, as well as applicable laws and regulations governing bank, Atlantic Union Financial Consultants, and products offered.
  • Other duties as assigned, including tasks that support essential functions; and may be changed or redesigned.


During Phase 2 and 3:



  • Counsel customers on investment related topics including retirement planning, tax planning, education planning, income management, risk management, suitability and investment objectives.
  • Adheres to Regulation Best Interest (Reg BI) and acts as a fiduciary for the client in all advisory relationships.
  • Responsible for meeting dictation, updating CRM, referral systems, and financial planning tools.
  • Purchase and sell securities to customers which meet their needs and/or when customer objectives change or need arises.
  • Maintain and service current customer accounts by answering questions about the market, evaluating the customer's portfolio, giving investment recommendations and acting as a liaison with operational units.
  • Perform investment related research on products, the market and the economy.
  • Leads various projects surrounding client/prospect support and operations.
  • Establishes, maintains and updates department files and/or client files and records
  • Partner with and refer to Atlantic Union bank branch and other internal line of business teammates when non-investment needs are identified
  • Incorporates new technology and solutions into their practice management.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and practices, as well as applicable laws and regulations governing bank, Atlantic Union Financial Consultants and products offered.



Organizational Relationship

This position reports to the AUFC Managing Director with a dotted line to the AUIC Supervisor.

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience



  • Bachelor's degree, in a business related discipline preferred.
  • Two years of experience in the investment services or the financial services industry preferred.
  • Within 120 days of employment - successfully obtain the following required licenses:

    • Securities Industry Essentials exam (SIE)
    • Series 7
    • Series 66 or Series 63 and 65
    • Virginia State Life and Health Insurance license.





Knowledge & Skills



  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient computer skills relevant to Microsoft Office Suites and on-line systems.
  • Advanced math and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and negotiating skills with ability to provide information and courteous responses to requests from clients, teammates and others.
  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment (phone, copier, fax, and printer/scanner) and general office procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of investment concepts, terminology, procedures and related regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to sell and negotiate financial products.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
