General Description This intern candidate will assist in all activities related to the QC function of the divisions quality plan, laboratory quality system plan, research and development, binder testing and certification, and other relevant QC duties to meet the needs of the liquid asphalt terminal operations. This position will report directly to the QC Binder Lab Manager. Roles and Responsibilities
- Works in a safe and effective manner, following Copiam Asphalt Solutions safety culture
- Responsibile for administrative duties, recordkeeping, and reporting in regards to the terminal QC binder plan.
- Learn to perform testing in accordance with respective State DOT specifications standards such as ASTM and AASHTO.
- Document test results in an accurate, timely, and organized fashion.
- Responsible for assisting in the calibration, cleaning, and maintenance of laboratory testing equipment.
- Intern will Develop and maintain a technical working knowledge of all lab equipment and duties.
- Intern will maintain a working knowledge of all tests and product specification requirements and (on occassion) coordinate with other technical personnel to maintain product quality and consistency.
- Any other technical lab duties as may be assigned.
Qualification Requirements
- Asphalt or laboratory experience is a plus
- Intern should demonstrate good communication skills with ability to interact effectively with peers to manage reporting and product quality issues.
- Strong recordkeeping and organization skills with attention to detail.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; ability to master lab equipment software.
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and able to bend, stoop and kneel as needed.
- Able to enter confined spaces and wear proper PPE when required.
- Able to climb railcars and tanks.
- Requires working in office conditions, performing some clerical work, working periodically outside in a manufacturing plant environment, with and around operational process equipment in varying temperature zones for extended periods of time.
- Able to work around asphalt and other related chemicals on an ongoing basis.
- Able to lift 25lbs. repetitively as needed

- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
- Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready mixed concrete.
