Summary:
The Engineering Documents Manager will oversee the control, standardization and lifecycle management of engineering drawings, specifications, test procedures, and configuration records to ensure traceability, compliance and efficiency under ISO 9001:2015, AS9100, and MIL-STD-973 environments.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the company's engineering documentation and configuration management function across all engineering disciplines.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce Document Control Procedures (DCPs) aligned with ISO 9001:2015 standard.
  • Work with corporate documentation control
  • Working with engineers and other stakeholders, manage document lifecycle and workflow within nLIGHT's document control system based in MS SharePoint: Template management, new document intake, review, approval, release, archival and retrieval.
  • Facilitate Engineering Change Order (ECO) workflow, Deviation Requests (DRs) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for accuracy, completeness, and configuration traceability.
  • Maintain revision control and ensure synchronization between Altium Designer 365, SolidWorks PDM, and internal PLM/ERP systems.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure proper release and revision of drawings, test reports and production travelers.
  • Support internal and external audits (ISO / DoD - customer) by providing documentation traceability and compliance evidence.
  • Train and mentor staff on document control procedures, templates, and configuration management best practices.
  • Coordinate documentation requirements with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure deliverable compliance.
Required Experience / Capability:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Technical Communications, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering document control or configuration management in a defense, aerospace, or high-tech manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and MIL-STD-973 (Configuration Management).
  • Understanding of engineering change management, configuration baselines, and controlled document workflows.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and process-development skills.
  • Expert user of Microsoft Office products, including SharePoint
  • Experience managing configuration and documentation for High Energy Laser (HEL) or photonics-based systems.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-31000, EIA-649, and DoD Data Item Descriptions (DIDs).
  • Certifications such as CMII (Configuration Management Institute) or ECM (AIIM) preferred.
  • Familiarity with DoD Acquisition Lifecycle (SRR, PDR, CDR)
  • Experience leading small teams of document control specialists or coordinators.
  • Knowledge of collaboration/documentation platforms.
  • Experienceworking in a technical Research and Development (R&D) environment.
