About the Team

Like every team at OpenAI, the Marketing team contributes to our broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. With that aim in mind, we are responsible for developing and executing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAI's products and platform amongst our core audiences. We take a data-driven approach to understand our customers' needs and challenges, ensuring that their voices are reflected in product development and messaging. We then partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Comms, and Design teams to create a cohesive customer experience across all our channels. Our focus extends beyond just promoting product features; we aim to provide valuable insights and resources that help our users make the most out of AI technologies.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Product Marketing Manager to help establish and grow OpenAI's API platform business. OpenAI's B2B strategy is centered on becoming the default API platform for every top AI startup globally and the intelligence layer inside the enterprise, helping AI agents connect to enterprise systems and data.

This is a highly strategic role focused on winning developer mindshare and scaling enterprise adoption. You will build and execute on high-impact marketing strategies that bring the capabilities of our platform to life for developers, startups, and enterprises-continuously redefining marketing strategies based on the rapidly changing competitive landscape. You will partner closely with Product, Sales, and Comms to determine how this product is positioned, how it goes to market, how we drive adoption and usage, and how we differentiate in a competitive enterprise landscape.

In this role you will:
  • Shape and differentiate the narrative for OpenAI's API platform: Position OpenAI as the default API platform for leading AI startups and enterprises, and clearly articulate "why OpenAI" over competitive AI platform, cloud, and infrastructure providers.

  • Help establish a new enterprise market for OpenAI: Define the narrative and value proposition for OpenAI in the enterprise, partnering with Sales and Product to determine target segments and personas, sales motions, and customer-facing content that support early traction and long-term scale.

  • Win developer mindshare: Partner with Developer Experience and Startup Marketing to build content, campaigns, launches, and programs that resonate with developers and founders and bring the value and possibilities of the API platform to life.

  • Partner deeply with Product to shape strategy and roadmap: Contribute insights from voice of customer, competitive context, and usage data to conversations with Product and Engineering to help shape roadmap and positioning of our products.

  • Build launch strategies for APIs, developer tools, and models: Develop messaging, competitive positioning, announcement strategies, cross-functional launch plans, and post-launch feedback loops that drive adoption and usage.

  • Build and standardize the foundation from scratch: Create and standardize core narratives, positioning, audience segmentation, and launch frameworks while moving quickly to bring new products to market.

You might thrive in this role if you:
  • Have 12+ years of experience in product marketing, technical marketing, sales engineering, or related roles in enterprise, B2B, or platform businesses.

  • Are excited by white space and ambiguity and want to build something new from the ground up.

  • Have experience helping define or launch net-new products, platforms, or categories, ideally alongside sales teams.

  • Enjoy working without a fully defined playbook and are motivated by ownership and impact.

  • Can translate complex technology into clear, differentiated enterprise value narratives.

  • Think holistically about market creation, segmentation, adoption, usage, and competition.

  • Are a strong cross-functional partner to Product and Sales.

  • Balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in fast-moving environments.

Workplace & Location

This role can be remote in the US with frequent travel to San Francisco.
