Langley Federal Credit Union has proudly served members since 1936, offering financial solutions to help individuals and families reach their goals. This summer, we're excited to continue our 10-week Summer Internship Program-an opportunity for motivated college juniors, seniors and graduates to gain hands-on experience in the financial industry. Full Time (40 hours/week) attendance will be required on site in Newport News, VA, from Monday June 1 - Friday August 7.

Internship Overview

Supports a strategically designed, cross-functional HR internship focused on translating people data into actionable insights, strengthening HR infrastructure, and establishing benchmark recruitment metrics. Delivers data-driven visual summaries and leader-facing tools that inform manager behaviors, updates employee-facing policy and system guidance, and produces a documented, reproducible cost-per-hire benchmark. Contributes to measurable improvements in HR guidance access, people analytics use, and recruitment measurement by the end of the internship.

Discipline: Translating Data into Insight & Action

Support the analysis and synthesis of engagement, development, and leadership-related data to identify patterns related to manager effectiveness, engagement, and development progress. Create clear visual summaries that translate insights into practical leader- and manager-facing tools. The focus is ensuring people data informs leadership behaviors, not just reporting.

Discipline: Strengthening People Infrastructure and HR Guidance

Support initiatives aimed at improving access to and application of HR guidance and system information. This work includes modularizing the employee handbook into standalone policies and updating employee- and leader-facing UKG guides to reflect new system navigation and workflows. The focus is ensuring employee-facing documentation is current, accurate, and consistently applied.

Discipline: Establishing Benchmark Metrics

Establish benchmark metrics, with an initial emphasis on average cost per hire. This includes collecting and validating data, developing a reproducible cost-per-hire model, and analyzing results by role and hiring source. The focus is on defining reliable metrics and building a foundation for ongoing measurement and improvement in organizational effectiveness.

Responsibilities



  • Analyze and synthesize engagement, development, leadership, and recruiting data.
  • Create clear visual summaries or briefing materials that translate people data into actionable insights.
  • Draft leader-facing tools to support engagement, development, and leadership effectiveness.
  • Assist with modularizing the employee handbook into standalone policies.
  • Update employee- and leader-facing UKG guidance to reflect current system navigation and workflows.
  • Collect, validate, and analyze data to establish benchmark recruitment metrics, including cost per hire.
  • Prepare a final summary and presentation of insights, tools, and benchmarks.


Qualifications



  • Education: Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Data Analytics, Business, or a related field (required).
  • Experience: Coursework or project experience in people analytics, HR operations, or data analysis preferred.
  • Technical skills: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar) preferred.
  • HR systems: Familiarity with HRIS platforms, preferably UKG, is preferred.
  • Analytical skills: Demonstrated ability to collect, validate, and document data sources and calculation methodologies (preferred).
  • Other: Ability to prepare professional documentation and presentations (preferred).
