Design Engineer - Research & Development (Heavy-Duty Clutches & Brakes)

Job Summary

We are seeking a technically proficient Design Engineer to join our Research & Development team, specializing in the design, analysis, and development of heavy-duty clutches and brakes. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, testing, and refinement of new and existing products for high-torque, high-energy industrial applications. This role bridges concept development and production readiness, requiring strong engineering fundamentals, creativity, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical/engineering solutions for new products and technologies within R&D projects
  • Translate research concepts and requirements into detailed designs, models, and prototypes
  • Create and maintain 2D drawings and 3D CAD models in accordance with company and industry standards
  • Perform detailed analytical calculations & simulations (e.g., stress, thermal, tolerance, or performance analysis) to validate designs
  • Build, test, and evaluate prototypes; analyze test results and iterate designs as needed
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure design feasibility
  • Support design verification and validation activities, including documentation and reporting
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute technical recommendations and improvements
  • Stay current with relevant technologies, materials, and industry trends
  • Support transition of designs from R&D to production, including supplier technical engagement
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, regulations, and safety requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 3-6 years of experience in a design engineering role, preferably within an R&D environment
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or similar)
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with prototyping and product testing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience with simulation or analysis tools (e.g., FEA, CFD)
  • Exposure to product development lifecycle from concept to production
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as precision grinding, spline forming, and heat treatment.
