Position description

Junior Specialist - Quandt Lab Diabetes Center

The Quandt Lab in the Diabetes Center at University of California, San Francisco is looking to recruit a Junior Specialist. This is a full-time and on-site position.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Incumbent will be expected to help on advanced studies on autoantibodies and defining autoimmune responses in our ongoing autoantibodies.
  • Research activities to be carried out by the incumbent will include: flow cytometry analysis, Phage Display immunoprecipitation, cloning, performing in vitro functional assays.


Required Qualifications:



  • Specialists appointed at the Junior rank must have (or in process of obtaining) a BA/BS degree in biological sciences (or related science).
  • Applicants must have obtained the degree requirement for the Specialist rank by the time of hire.
  • Knowledge of and experience with mouse husbandry and handling.
  • Comfortable working with laboratory instruments and computers; Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Comfortable working with primary human blood samples.
  • The ability to work under minimal supervision after the initial training period is key for this position.
  • Strong organization skills in time management and maintenance of accurate notebooks and computer files.
  • Team player with good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to learn and highly motivated to succeed.
  • Willingness to be flexible with work hours to accommodate experimental schedules.
  • Applicant's materials must list (pending) qualifications upon submission.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Basic cell and molecular biology protocols: antibody assays, tissue culture, PCR, DNA sequence analysis and/or cloning are desirable.
