Software engineer (Rochester) Status:Exempt (salaried)

Position Summary
The Software engineer plays a vital role in the development and refinement of manufacturing operations digital space to achieve operational excellence through data centric processes and applications. S/he exhibits systemic thinking towards continuous improvement, leveraging Lean-Sigma methodologies, data collection, and analysis, to improve product quality & reliability, leading to a business longevity. The ideal candidate has the technical know-how to develop easy-to-use UIs with an understanding of where each piece of functionality fits into the larger system.
Principal Accountabilities
- Design/create integrated systems which communicate in an automated way to give a full picture of the manufacturing operations that are happening on the production floor
- Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution System (MES) functionality is preferred
- Develop operational software applications for data collection to support continuous improvement efforts and to increase the visibility onto the production floor
- Support improvements in production quality, production capacity, and cost reduction initiatives. Will be required to engage with a range of business units to understand where there are opportunities for future software integration
- Drive continued implementation of the manufacturing execution systems into all aspects of manufacturing within the PLUG network.
Core Duties And Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance to all Regulatory (Local, Federal), Corporate, and Plant standards.
- Develops and maintains a detailed understanding of Plug Power products and related manufacturing objectives and engineering constraints.
- Represents Plug Power in a professional manner at all times.
- Develops and improves manufacturing processes and material flow through data collection and user interfaces to view documentation or data
- Monitors process improvement progress and supports team problem solving projects including root cause analysis, containment, corrective, and preventative action implementation to zero in on a well-defined MES and communication loop with other business units.
- Build manufacturing facing applications with the intent to collect the data necessary to communicate manufacturing process performance metrics (KPI's).
- Utilizes and improves business process systems (quality & test data bases, ERP system, project management software, etc.) to support continuous improvement efforts.
- Develops and maintains standard operating procedures (SOP's) relevant to the newly developed software.
- Deploy and Train manufacturing operators along with leadership on new functionality
- Contributes to Operational Excellence efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Education and Experience
- BS degree in Computer Science, Software Development, or related field
- Proficient in Python, R, or other programming common languages
- Experienced with software application design and testing
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills
- Experience with Tulip software is a plus
- Demonstrated critical thinking and creative problem solving
- Superior analytical skills and data-driven approach to evaluate data and assimilate into a working plan for improvement
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software
- Uncompromising dedication to product quality
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects and multi-task effectively
- Proven track record of driving continuous improvement projects
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to role model high standards of professionalism
- Ability to mentor junior staff members

Pay Rate:
$64,100.00 - $96,100.00
